I also think the 4 speed works well in the d4d I found the 5 speed v6 always hunting for the right gear.in saying this I change my vehicles about every two years so longevity isn't a real issue.

Weird man I've always found the 5spd fast and decisive, does what it's told and never missed a beat. Offroad i choose and hold my gears (and it obeys / Wong change up).

Never drive around in D unless on sealed road.

Ie I still think and choose what gear I want and it's fast to do so ... Just no clutch.

I think Any auto in sand etc is going to delay / make decisions hence always select gear. (Key style shifter helps as get a muscle memory happening).

I love my v6, around town a bit hungry but on highway just as good as diesil. I had many diesil hilux's for work utes and I can stand the terrible rattling they do.

It might fit... Ha!!! She's an old block now. At around 1700rpm she sucks approx 65L/h. Displacement prop pushing an ally hull.. Just falls short of getting on the plane.

The current equivalent is a 24.2L V12 with an extra 50KW. Would imagine much less fuel too...

Heh nice. Shoe horn one in. Might need an ocean to cool it !

Good on fuel until the tri stage turbos kick in then it's on like donkey kong pushing 90tonne

I can't really talk about the D4D's but the V6 is a faaarkin tough engine... mine has not skipped a beat and i have thrown everything at it, including water in the fuel thanks to 7/11... limped home.. siphoned the fuel, changed filter and she kept going :D

I wouldn't buy another lux with diesel, however saying that the V6 with a 6 speed would put the nail in the coffin for the fragile D4D. I'm over with dwarves in bonnet with sledge hammers going for it every morning.

I'm diesel all the way. If I want a speed and handling adrenaline fix I take the Mrs car for a drive. In saying that I am dissapointed in the new 1 and hoping to fix it soon. Also when it comes to resale value the diesel wins but I suppose we pay more in the start so probably evens out. What is the fixed price service for a petrol? Diesel is $170 a pop.

Rubbish, evolution is the future. Toyota set standards and the competition follow.
Really think Toyota will stick with a 4 cylinder diesel for ever?
Who thought the'd can a V6 variant?
Who thought the'd bring out V8 twin turbo diesel's?
V10's may happen, V12's may happen and so we evolve.

I Rate The Diesel's.

Can't see it happening in the next 10 years if it ever does

Exactly.

They might not stick with it forever but it's worked well for them over the last 25 years. The next evolution however will most likely be another cylinder or two but not another four - if not sticking with the existing 4 in a more efficient configuration

It's not really surprising the V6 has been canned at all. The focus on fuel efficiency these days is huge and the diesel largley outsells the V6 10:1.

V10's & V12's??? Riiiiight. Nuff' said
