I might be wrong, but I thought the only cars that you get get full street rego on LHD was anything over 30 years old?? Otherwise it HAD to be converted???

Please correct me if I am wrong.

It's a big job to convert... complete new dash and firewall required, relocate airbags etc. It's ot something you do in your shed after dinner, like a 60s Mustang/Camaro or a VW Beetle

I thought they still made RHD F250's in Brazil. But Still charge $140k to import from there.

Dont know the answer for certain, although I have seen plenty of later model LHD's tooling around in the NT,perhaps not current vehicles but certainly late '90's / early 2000's so bit more than 10 years old ?
You see a few more in Alice Springs, too. We always thought this had something to do with the heaps of Yanks who worked/based out at Pine Gap.The rego plates were just the standard 'Outback Australia' ones.
Like I said, I may well be wrong.....

When they do conversions do they have to play ball wiht the manufacturer a little? ie getting the proprietary dashboards made and the like? or do they fabricate / copy that entirely themselves?

I wonder if they even need permission / cooperation if its the latter?

nah they research, tool-up and do it all themselves. Big task - hence the cost

A mate of mine worked over in America and Canada for a while and insisted on asking the dealership for a Postman's Vehicle which would then be converted to RHD due to mail boxes being on the right of the street and would make it a lot harder, not to mention the safety, if the vehicle was LHD. In America, people sue for some BS reasons....

There was a video by Performax in Gympie showing what was involved in the conversions (they do Tundra's as well for similar cost), but it must have been taken down (can't find it).

I was surprised at how much work went into it, they basically rebuild the cars from the ground up, make their own injection moulded interior components to suit the switchover, make lights and steering components from scratch to ADR standard, remap ECU's for local fuels. For the amount of work involved it's a pretty reasonable cost.

For that price I would much prefer a 200 series Sahara or a Land Rover
Sport. Small market equals to high price tag.

Never understood why people buy those F trucks from the states, massive running costs, way to big to fit in any carparks not to mention the cost involved in importing them! Warranty and parts the list goes on...

No live axle front on Tundras, the front part of the car is based around 200series stuff. If you get the photos of the interior & doors up on the net & you are familiar with the Cruiser you can pick it straight away. The earlier model was the same as my 100 series inside, they've been IFS for around 12 years now.. It's a shame you can't get the V8 twin turbo in it instead of the petrol engine, which is the same donk you get in a new Lexus LX570. But yeah it's a rip off at $125000!!!
