Has anyone found a solution yet? I hate that I have to put my lux into 4L when towing my boat out of the slipway, or just marginal sand off-roading, the 1st gear is sooooooo long its bloody useless.
I'm on my 2nd clutch already at 60k and this ones not going to last much longer.
I heard the last of the 15/16 models (before the new lux) had a 6 speed box, is this true?

Do you have SR5 or SR with ADD? If so, you can do the 2wd low range mod

here in south america they bring them luxes still with the 1kd even in the 2017 model and they have 6-speed tranys. even for them lame 2.5 2kd with 102hp you have 6-speed. ask toyota for that trany!

Well don't know how much the prado is like the Hilux in relation to differential and driveshaft. But the 6 speed gearbox from a Hilux should be the easiest to fit, but maybe not the cheapest.
