bigger tray and more room in the back sounds good. Rear air vents is great! Looks like the approach angle has been improved. Overall it looks like a great vehicle but i like the old transfer lever and long gearstick.

I WAS impressed though to see they still have plenty of blank switch panel spots for mods, something all the other utes in this sector seem to neglect.

I reckon toyota might have just made the best family tourer ute in the market.... but that's not what I want so i'll stick to what I got :D

Plus it'll be bloody ages till there's as comprehensive a set of aftermarket mods as there is for the current hilux :D

Probably best not to buy for 2 years till they iron out the bugs.

I just hope they have beefed the chassis up a little if they r claiming 3.5t towing, the cracked or completely broken rear chassis rails I repair at work because of these so called towing capacities! Image Sure the engine can pull it but can the ute handle it????

interesting.... hilux have to be the only dual cab with space under the bonnet for a second battery right?

So will the new hilux be like the prado and require a foot fully down on the clutch to start?

None of the "claimed" towing capacities are actual towing capacities when the vehicles are loaded up to their maximum weight which includes 4 passengers a full tank of fuel and the rest made up in a load on the back. Also not including your accessories.
Makes you wonder how many vehicles are overloaded on trips because of false advertising. Just another thing to prove that numbers are not everything, food for thought.

Eg
Pre facelift hilux
Gcm 5030 - gvm 2780 = 2250kg actual and claimed

Current hilux
Gcm 5280 - gvm 2780 = 2500kg actual and claimed

Ford PX ranger
Gcm 6000 - gvm 3200 = 2800kg actual. 3500kg claimed

Bt50 current
Gcm 6000 - gvm 3200 = 2800kg actual. 3500kg claimed

Navara d40 st 2.5l
Gcm not given - gvm 2860 = 3000kg claimed

Dmax current
Gcm 5950 - gvm 2950 = 3000kg actual. 3500kg claimed

Rg colorado
Gcm 6000 - gvm 3100kg = 2900kg actual. 3500kg claimed

Mitsubishi triton
Gcm 5700 - gvm 2930kg = 2770 kg actual. 3000kg claimed

Pete 90 .
The way I understand it , if you load any vehicle to its max GVM , you can't tow anything , if you place any weight on the tow ball , you then exceed the Vehicle GVM by that amount .

The Max GVM has to be spread over the front and rear axle .

My Hilux was over the front axle weight with Winch Bar , Winch , lights and second battery .

Hi jackolux, thanks for that. I forgot to account for the towball weight. But i was just showing the discrepancy with these "claimed" numbers when you add up all the variables. As most of us do when going on a trip, we fill our rigs to the brimm.

Love it or Hate it it is the New Hilux !, we will just have too see it in the flesh too see if its worth the upgrade. From what ive seen of the interior i do like it, not sure about the ipadesq looking screen though.

All in all it looks ok, so far. In all seriousness what are the "real" alternative's ?

Cheers

I have just replaced my Hilux with a new Dmax , I got a GVM upgrade before first rego +270kg = 3220kg
The GCM remains the same .

My Lux was always well over GVM , I will able to keep it legal now .

The new Hilux will be up there with the rest , including 3.5t towing , I don't think 3.5ton is realistic behind any of em .

Bent chassis can be a problem with any of the Dual Cabs , well not just Dual cabs , but they are the worst offenders.

It's pretty much improper use to much weight on the back then add a heavy ball load .

In my travels I have seem a lot of Banana 4x4's , not all towing either , I have seen more Tritons than any others

Last Simpson trip I saw a bent late model Hilux , he had a tray that was just too long and a bloody heavy looking camper on the back same trip there was a badly broken Patrol Tray body at Oodnadatta, it was stuffed big time
it was overloaded to the extreme.

Do the wrong thing , they can all bend .

Leaf springs and drum brakes? Surely not for Australia. Can't be.

As far as I know the rules for light commercial vehicles hasn't changed. I should say loophole, not rules.

Yep, if you can avoid paying taxes by using leaves and drum set up you would.
