Looking at the pictures, do you think the upgraded stereo from the SR5 would fit the SR ??

It will be interesting if it does...

this new gen of audio unit in the sr5 is great and now affordable. if you purchase a new sr ask the dealer for what the price is to update. i have seen a few go thru at my work but cant quote you an actual price. approx $1000 ???? (better than $4500 for the old sat nav)

the genuine unit is sat nav , divx avi compatible , bluetooth- voice recognition and so on.

The Sat nav is listed as an accessory on the Toyota page, so I would assume it would fit, as it obviously can't be an accessory for the SR5, cause it is already in it.

I find the new Sr5 HU a very good FACTORY! deck. And i have seen a fare few.

Sound quality wise its very good. It has decent voltage coming out of the speaker out channels (checked at all frequencies)

sat nav works 99% of the time. except for some no through roads :x

I would never buy one though .

Ther are so many good satnav decks that will kill the toyota one and look like a factory fit with a bigger screen.

Does the SR even have sterring wheel controls?.
That would be the only reason i would want to hang on to it if i have to change one day. that day will come.

Here are some options:
Kenwood DNX4310DABNAV (dvd/nav/bt/dab/receiver)
Eclipse AVN827GA (dvd/nav/bt/receiver)
Clarion NX702A (dvd/nav/bt/receiver)
Pioneer AVIC-F40BT (dvd/nav/bt/receiver)
Orion AVR6.1 (dab/dvd/nav/bt/receiver)
JVC KW-AVX836NAV (dvd/nav/bt/receiver)
Philips CID2680 (dvd/nav/bt/receiver)

I put the 2012 head unit (touch-screen, non-satnav version) into my 2007 SR5 - no worries about putting it into any Hilux! I wanted to keep the unit OEM for my Hilux since I also put in the OEM reversing camera in just this Sunday. Reversing camera is fantastic on the large screen.

The unit only cost me $350 as well.

Would be nice if I could get steering controls somehow on it though... but, that's ok... for now :P

yes the SR has steering wheel controls and if you want to install a factory unit you will have to install a GPS antenna and it has some weird assed connecter that also has the radio antenna in it too, so that could be a pain to work around. The a-sure head unit support the steering wheel controls but you have to hard wire the cables and change the antenna plug back to standard as the connecters have changed since the previous model.

you can get the genuine cameras from the dealer, shop around, I was quoted a difference of near $400 for supply and fit between the mob I brought from, and a dealer on the south side - I went to the south side

You can get the genuine reverse camera off eBay... I did from sydneycityparts and installed it myself. It was the full kit with instructions. While those instructions estimates the installation time to be 1 hour... well, it took me 3... which ain't bad I think :p
