you can buy pre assembled struts, I think Ultimate and monster rides do it for free when you opt to have their packs freighted.

180degrees wrote:$2000 is quite a bit for suspension, you could of got a monster rides rekon kit plus rear leaves for that which lets you wind up the ride height and is no doubt a better piece of kit, OME make some great stuff just I have never been a fan of their suspension

What price list are you looking at? Monster rides is over a grand just for coilovers. $2000 grand is about the going rate for a good suspension kit.

jerard500 wrote:does anyone know an easy way to install new coilovers in a 2014 hilux, I had the old ones out but because the new ones are 2inchs longer I couldn't fit them. I was under the impression you didn't need a spring compressor.

Mate you just have to lever down the lower control arm. No need for spring compressors. Just make sure your truck is on stands when you do it and not likely to fall off a jack as you are wriggling it in.

yeh that's what I was trying, I had the control arm down as far as it could go and trying to lever it in but there was no way it was going in. I had the sway bar disconnected and even looked up the video from snake racing but when I got to the install stage it just wasn't happening

Hey guys, thought I would pop the quote I got off a local dealer, In very early discussions and looking to pen something very early in the new tax year,

2013/14 SR5 D/C - Man T/D
Charcoal Grey
Canopie ARB
ARB Delux Bullbar
Towbar - Round large
Tub liner

$55,500

Thinking more into it, I think I would like a suspension upgrade/lift and some A/T's more so than a canopy at the moment,

Also I think some driving lights and internal matts and seat covers also a must :?

Might blow the quote out a bit though,, I have $55k to spend and an 80 Series GXL to trade in,, might be able to wheel and deal a bit more?

Only got one price so far, South East Melbourne burbs

Cheers!

you can't buy one before end of financial year? you'll get a much better deal.

$55k seems ok I guess you can definitely do much better.

Have you looked an SR, they are pretty much identical now apart from a couple of luxury things like satnav and carpet floors but they are like $8k cheaper, $8k for mods as far as I see it

oh and get a spray in tub liner, worth the extra $$

Ring around Toyota dealers. If a cheap car is interstate find out which wholesalers gave you a price you were happy with for the GXL and sell it straight to them, then buy one interstate if cheap enough, freighted to you.

There are V6 auto SR5's around new for $45k driveaway in MY12 spec, far better car and $10k cheapr than the diesel manual you've been quoted.

you can get a arb bar for around 2600 fitted an colour coded, canopy 2500-3500.

Comments/thoughts from people with experience. What are the best genuine Toyota accessories to get? About to finalise a deal for a new SR5 dual cab and wanting to get a few extras. Are the tub liners worth it? Soft covers or hard lids? Genuine tint worth it or should I get aftermarket??

Many thanks :D

Mate if you want a soft tonneau get the Toyota genuine that clips over the lip. Bit like the Holden ute 1. Very neat and no straps. I'm not a tub liner person so got the Hilux rubber mat to protect and stop things moving around in the tub. That was it for me as it went to ARB and got the works. It depends a lot on what you are going to be doing and what you like in looks. Don't think there is a Toyota tint. Most just get the detailing department to fit it so be aware that is not their specialty. Can usually get it done cheaper by the Pro's.

^^ clip over rail soft cover!! Best thing i did, don't waste your coin on the tub liner (hard plastic) too much trimming to make it fit with all the gen and non gen accessories believe me I know being through it. When you settle tell them that you don't wish to speak to the after sales accessories lady it's all crap that she sells that also cost 3x as much if you went to the actual places that specialise in it.
Toyota wanted $795 to tint my windows to 35% up front, only slightly lighter than rear.
And it cost me $285 at altapac for all my windows done to 20% fronts (35% rears and 70% back window basically uv rating them) as they were privacy glass.
Paint protection, meh don't believe in it, give the car a good wax and works the same.

Get them to throw this into your deal
Floor mats yes
Tub mat yes
Spray on liner eg, rhino liner

I also did as Homer72, stated and went to ARB on several occasions getting things I wanted after I had settled down and thought about what I actually needed and wanted to do with my hilux

Good luck

Most are pretty overpriced...tell them you want them at cost price or you'll be going else where  just beware in QLD at least you pay stamp duty on anything you put in the sale contract.

maybe floor mats, reverse camera, seat covers, bonnet/headlight protectors, clip on tub cover, get a spray on rhino liner they are 1000x better and maybe a towbar.

then take it to ARB for for a bullbar + driving lights and your local mechanic for a decent lift kit (bilstein, tough dog, lovells, monster rides and ultimate are all good)

finish up at the tyre shop and throw on some 265/75r17 BFG KM2's and you'll be able to go most places with the truck setup like that.
