Problem is, if they fitted the V8 TD to the hilux it would need an entirely different drivetrain to the current one as we all know its on its limit with the d4d behind it. They wont physically fit into the current chassis width anyway so that would need to be widened. They'd also need to atleast use the H151f gearbox from the cruisers to handle the extra power - the current R151 box was originally found behind toyota surf's which were powered by 2.8l diesels and 4cyls.... s

My only hope is that the KEEP the leaf springs / live axle on the back and non of this coil / irs p***y ass shit, as the hilux has been and always should be - a no frills no fancy gizmo friggin WORK ute that can easy carry a shitload of weight, and not a "comfort first" prado ute wannabe

I'd love to see coil/live rear end but that won't happen.

If you want coils buy why not buy a prado - the hilux is and always should be a work ute. There are no real tradesmen that would buy a work ute that has coil springs.... that includes mining companies and thats where the bulk supply of hiluxes go

Regardless of what fits and what doesn't, I can't see them fitting a V8 in a Hilux, in doing so that will compete against other vehicles they already make like the 200 and will also lose a position in the market that they currently sit.
The segment that it is currently in is huge so it will want to stay there and as with all the latest gen utes it will have leaves in the rear
IMO

I bought a Hilux because I wanted a ute mainly for the motorbikes, spot lighting and they look awesome. Not everyone uses there Hilux as a work ute. I know most people probably do. But there's plenty of blokes out there that would love the on road and off road capability of a coiled rear Hilux.

Just my 2 cents

Yeah but not enough people to warrant making such a drastic change to a model which has already been a primarily designed work ute for over 20 years... They could do a coil option tho but that would change the gvm and load rating / towing rate so cant see it happening. Id love the power of a v8 with the fuel consumption of a 3cyl daewoo matiz but that aint guna happen either

Don't forget the Thailand tax rules that make leaf/drum brake rears cheaper. Where as the cruiser is assembled in Japan. So i doubt that there will be a big change unless they shift there manufacturing elsewhere :?

Every ute has leaves regardless of where it's made. Leaves exist because they are better for certain applications not because of tax incentives.

I think you will find that all of the Hilux competitors are made in Thailand (with the exception of the Amarok) and they do have a tax law there that makes them cheaper in that configuration. So in order for them to remain competitive they have to be of similar specs. Don't dismiss what happens in some distant asian country as you will find that it is the largest single market for these types of utes and therefore is a significant influence on how they are configured.

Amarok has leaves doesn't it? So with no tax constraints, the best design solution they could come up with were leaves. Same thing for all the trucks and buses with leaves that aren't made in Thailand. Same design applies to hilux. Wasn't hilux with leaves before being manufactured in Thailand? Also doesn't falcon and commadore ute also have leaves? I reckon Hilux would have leaves regardless of where it was made. Also I prefer leaves.

Fairly sure commodore utes are coil/irs, not sure on falcons.

Leave in the rear is better for carrying loads, and for a work ute that is what you want.

Don't get me wrong bud i'm happy enough with leaf springs too. And i think there is another good reason for leaves,ie; the load carrying capacity. But toyota would also have to consider that there vehicle is priced at a premium already, and they don't really need the unnecesary added tax implications adding to the price . As for trucks and buses, don't most of them run airbags these days? All the one's i have seen lately do. And sorry but the commodore ute is a independant multi link rear.
