Max power output is meaningless. Don't drink the kool-aid.

15kw, about the difference the raptor style grill makes when it has being installed.
Even the v8 cruiser is only 151kw and 430nm.

Power will be different across all the markets for the hilux.

So that means the Ranger has 162kw with a raptor grill against the Hilux's 132.

I can't understand why Japanese diesels are so gutless & thirsty compared to the European diesels.

My point is that the end power figure means nothing compared to its drive-ability, don't forget the current hilux is 10years old and you are comparing it to a car the is 4years old this year. A lot changes in 6months let alone 10years

On the subject of power, I currently own a 3.2 auto Ranger and believe me, the current Hilux will kick it's butt from a standing start. The lag is terrible on the Ranger, It's so bad I'd go as far to say it's dangerous

I test drove the new triton today and it wasn't much better, I will be keen to drive the new Hilux when it arrives as I think the twin turbo arrangement will help to reduce the turbo lag. Hopefully it's as easy to drive as the current one

Mark

I have taken the current ranger on a decent test drive both manual and auto and yes it was nice and I did like it, would I rush to buy one, no. Would I buy one, yes if I wanted a utility for my next car and I still liked it compared to the others.

As I wrote in another thread comparing the two makes, to me they felt the same as my d4d auto 4 speed apart from the comfort of the ride, the noise through the firewall and sheer sized of the ute. To me it's a worthy contender

I think the 1gd is a single but the new navara will be a 2.3 twin turbo

I'm still not convinced that a smaller displacement engine will not suffer as it will be working harder to produce the increased power than would a larger displacement producing the same power. The stress on a smaller engine would have to be greater. I know that a smaller engine will have a lower fuel consumption which it seems the manufacturers are chasing but is it at the expense of engine life and reliability? I guess only time will tell.
For me a V6 Diesel would be the best motor choice for the Hilux but I guess I'm a dreamer.

I don't see a problem if the engine is built to work that hard. But you're right. A V6 would be great!

For the Ranger guys prowling around on the Hilux forum, bragging about 147kW, here is what 132kW can do: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=0J0KcLrOjzk:

Stats don't mean anything. ;)
People that buy vehicles based on the manufacturing figures, are the loosers in all of this.
They mean nothing, and that video proves this.
It's the engineering that matters.
Best to ask trusted people in the mechanical and diesel fitting industries, what they think.
I know it's a bit hard on a new developed vehicle, as it hasn't proven it's self, yet.
The Roo.

I had a week on Fraser with a new xlt ranger and it was slightly more economical than my hilux which surprised me. It did get stuck in 4wd, have an engine light come on, a random flat battery but it was slightly more economical.....

As reported - appears to have coil-springs on the rear as I can't see any leaf spring on the under body photo.
