... Damn

Whilst it is an improvement over the current lux, it's not really up to spec against the competition

It looks like a Klu-lux?
I have a massive brain rut here. Sik deal on a 2015 "old" shape or hold tight for something else.
I think I'm safest with the last of the old?

The more I learn about the new one the happier I am with my 2014.

I hope those engine numbers are wrong. That's some pretty ordinary output figures. The ranger might just overtake it in more ways than one

If the new Hilux 4 cylinder 2.8 TD motor has vastly superior economy to the Ranger's 5 cylinder 3.2 TD donk, and doesn't carry any emissions SCR system requiring AdBlue, and uses a timing chain instead of a timing belt, maybe it's gonna be just fine for the job.

One can only hope that it has a reliable injector system, which will remain an unknown for the new few years.

The 1GD-FTV in the Hilux is tuned for 132kW of power and 450Nm of torque between 1600 – 2400rpm
By comparison, a VW Amarok TDI420 motor yields 132kw and 420Nm of torque at 1750rpm, out of a smaller 2.0 litre capacity.

So the new Hilux motor isn't particularly powerful, given it's capacity advantage. Perhaps the next generation Prado will also receive the same 2.8 motor, but Toyota will unleash it with a higher state of tune, just to differentiate the motor between the two models.

Folks,
Spoke to a dealer today - confirmed 2.8l 4 cyl. for the Lux, however he claims CarAdvice aka VeeDud Advice figures are incorrect. 2.8l GD series for Oz supposed to be 30% more torque and power than the Thai one. He said the figures which are coming from the HQ are around 160kW - 450Nm. Pricing will be similar to the existing one & first deliveries are for late September/October. Not sure how correct it is but we can only hope.... :ugeek:

when the dealer was suggesting same prices for the new model, I suspect that is non discounted. ie $60k driveaway opposed to the heavily discounted $48k driveaway for the SR5 at the moment

It'll be interesting to see how they spec the top model. Toyota has so many gadgets in the Tundra, Sequoia, LandCruiser, Lexus goodie bag yet they still market the Hilux as a watered down commercial vehicle. Toyota should keep the SR5 as is, then introduce a Limited model with all the goods in it. All the while shifting the pricing back to the point where the top model is the same as today's SR5.

I'm pretty new to this forum, but can anyone tell me how the announcement of the previous TRD went down at the time? If they did that again.....

Correct, RRP - circa $60k d.a for SR% - they do not expect any increase but as with everything new - first wave will come and than back to normal.

Yep, I agree. Good to finally see it without the camo.
I think the inside looks good. Now for final Oz Spec line up. Wonder how much they will put in the SR level of this model?
