Roof rack & snorkel quote

Postby Fixa4377 on Thu, 07 May 2015 3:32 +0000

Hi Guys,

Made a few calls today about getting an ARB steel open ended tradesman rack on the canopy with front bar over driver/passenger seats and also a Safari snorkel,

Canopy needs the strength bars installed in the canopy also,

All installed I am looking at between $1900 - $2100,

This seem about right?

cheers

I just got a custom aluminium open ended rack for mine made up to what sounds like similar dimensions. Paid $1100 fitted from a local mob who make trays, racks etc. You may be able to save a bit by going custom on the racks, and just getting ARB to brace the canopy?

ARB quoted $2080 but said $1900 if I did the lot :?

They also said steel bar because the alloy can only hold 80kg?

I am not after carrying too much weight but 80kg is pretty dismal?

I had a Safari snorkel fitted at ARB recently for $660, if that helps at all.

I ended up buying a Denso direct off Toyota for $460 :)

Also the tradesman rack and canopy supports off ARB and am having it all fitted by a 4wd specialist,

ARB won't install Denso :?

So went direct to one of their back up installers off site :D

Ok,

Had the Denso and ARB rack fitted today, Looks UNREAL. Stoked :D

BUT,,,, it has a horrid whistle, not the standard whistle from wind resistance etc, but a hollow whistle, deep whistle.

Cannot pick up if it's from the Denso snorkel (the water holes look suspect for a whistle) or the rhino drivers bar going over the driver/passenger seat.

The racks are making the standard slight whistle but that deep hollow whistle is alarming.

The installer questioned the water release holes on the bottom of the snorkel saying they are a perfect ingredient for a whistle, 100m down the road it started.

Any ideas???

They used sealant under the snorkel cover to seal to car as it doesn't come with anything for sealing, It's the standard Ram head Denso on a 2013 Hilux

I am not following where you needed the sealant mate?

You could always go through a process of elimination, I dare say your rack should be pretty easy to pull off? I would suggest pulling it for a day and seeing if that is the problem, then if not, you know it is an issue with the snorkel.

Hey Jacko,

Underneath apparently,, The installer mentioned it as I was driving out "put some sealer around it too mate" - something along those lines anyways haha,,

Argh haha if it comes to it I will eliminate, hoping someone has a magical cure/answer for me lol
