Angel eye headlights on 2009 SR5 hilux

Postby Abtheman on Tue, 12 Aug 2014 3:31 +0000

Hey guys,

Just wanting to know peoples thoughts on the angel eye headlights for the new hilux? I am considering buying a pair at some stage soon but curious to know what they are like in comparison to stock?? Better or worse? Any feed back would be much appreciated.

Cheers.

Just installed a set on my 2005 model. Every bit as good as stock, high beam seems a little better.

I think they look 100x better than the standard ones, defiantly happy with my purchase. I'll post up a pic.

Awesome mate, looks great! And pretty keen on get some now. What did you pay? Can you send me a link of where you got these exact ones as I know I've seem another set of the same angel eye ones but the led lights are on top of the headlights (which I don't like). The style you have I think is far better

These are the exact ones I bought, http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/160534491746 ... 1497.l2649

Yeah I saw those other ones with LEDs on the top while I was looking too, decided on these ones and am happy I did, good luck with it.

Thanks mate. Yeah I have seen mixed reviews online so far and guys who say the lighting from these is worse than stock.....but then other guys saying it better. I'm guessing the lights comes complete with bulbs?

Yeah mate well I can't see any problems with these ones, easily as good as stock if not better.

They come with the headlight blub, the only trick is that as the indicator has a clear reflector instead of an orange you'll need to pick up a pair of orange indicator bulbs.

I have these as well, with HIDs (illegal) in both the low and high beams. I did a wiring mod so that when hi beam is selected the low beams stay on (don't want to be blind whilst they're warming up)
The lense on mine have both faded and sort of cobwebbed in a way that no amount of polishing seems to have fixed.

I bought mine cheaply 2nd hand, but I'm actually looking now to change to a set of fortuner headlights and return to halogen - these will perform adequately around town and my LED light bars will take care of upping the performance of my hi beams.

What's the legality of this mod? If they're still Halogen, is it legal? cheers

Thanks for the info mate. Yeah they definitly look great but if they are fading that is kind of dissapointing especially if you have applied polish etc and its still not making any form of difference. I guess being the fact they are made in Taiwan and China & go for a price which is hard to believe then i cant expect perfect qaulity.

Finally have my angel eye headlight in place. I tried the stock bulbs out of curiosity and they are crap! ... As I know everyone has already said. I upgraded to a complete set of NARVA +30 white light bulbs but stll not entirely happy with them yet. There is a definite gain by having these over stock but interested to know if anyone has normal bulbs (not HID) and there thoughts on what is recommended for the best lighting? Also out of curiosity where can I buy HID kits from and are they easy enough to wire in? I've seen the NARVA +120 bulbs ..... Has anyone got these installed?

You guys may be overlooking the fact that a majority of the people who have purchased these are running blacked out surrounds (JDM style) which in turn is a loss of XX% of light.
Also, i noticed with mine that the spread of the projector was all over the shop and needs to be adjusted considerably from factory to get everything decent for night time use.

my opinion (we all have one) is youre better off spending your money and hassle on a pair of HID spotties, and a lightbar ... stuff that will truly improve the vehicle.

Headlights are really only for "around town" ... who cares, it's all street lit anyway (and if it's not, then youre in high beam aka spotties and light bar territory).

I've heard so many reports of these angel eyes being crap, not water tight, and falling apart under corrugation or rough driving that i wouldnt touch with a bargepole.

Toyota make perfectly good headlight.

to each their own of course.

+1

Alternatively, you can always get your original headlights retrofitted with proper projector lens with HID's which give clean cutoffs so as not to blind oncoming and the car in front. They go for around $500 for the kit last time i asked or about $700 retrofitted for you.
You should be able to find the link somewhere on the forums to the guys website, forgot the name though.

Which doesn't have enough adjustment...
I was happy with my headlights until I lifted the front of the lux up, then I ran out of adjustment.
So now I blind everyone else, while not being able to see anything myself.

I don't like the look of the angel eye lights though.
