Which compound to use for minor scratches

Postby abs on Tue, 08 Jul 2014 9:29 +0000

Hey Folks,
My luxy has developed annoying scratches from driving into the bushes, didn't bother about them earlier though but, I want to give the baby a new shiny makeover .
What rubbing/Polishing compound do you suggest and what tools do I need to accomplish this myself ??
Also both sides and the tray door needs to be polished.
Do I need to wax as well afterwards to get the gloss and save from the elements after buffing...???

Luxy need these suggestions
Cheers !!

Depends how deep they are, cut and buff will take out most surface scratches but any deeper and wider will be hard to repair.

Photo's?

thanks for the reply mate, will post the photos soon.... scratches are not deep and I can't catch them by fingernail.
So Cut and buff is the name of the product ??? Also do i need a hand held buffer for this???

Cheers!!

I do all of mine by hand, as I have seen some of the machines burn brand new paint on cars.

Make sure the car is clean. Buy yourself a clay bar (meguiars and mothers have good ones).

I personally use ScratchX by Meguiars, it helps with the majority of scratches. Heaps of blokes use a cutting polish that I find a bit hard. Apply it with a foam polishing pad by hand and polish it off with a microfibre cloth. Just go steady, don't rub the pants off it.

Then buy a polish. I use meguiars deep crystal polish apply the same as above and then I follow it with wax.

I find I can get about 6-9 months out of this when washing my car regularly with a good quality car wash. Speaking of which my lux is due again.

That's how I do all of my cars.

by the time you buy all the crap, i just pay $ 200.00 and send it to a detailer now and she comes back like brand new.

A lot of detailing places use products that make it look fantastic but won't last. Do my car every 6 months and get 2 years out of the products. Plenty of YouTube videos that give you tips and correct techniques. I will do it for half that price haha

Problem I have may not be the same for everyone but it is time, to do it properly it takes, well me anyways about 4 1/2 hours - kids, sport, interruptions it's a killer. Agreed good job should last a year or more,

But with a black lux 10 min in the bush and all that time wasted.

Maguires scratch x, go over it a few times then wipe it off. Finish it with maguires tech wax 2.0. I do this all the time with my black ute, comes up like new. Used it 2 days ago to get a deep white scratch out and no worries. Just put the effort into it and it will cover it.
