Silver hilux scratch

Postby Luxx123 on Mon, 26 Aug 2013 3:22 +0000

Hey guys, this is probably a stupid question. But I have a big noticeable scratch along the side of my silver Hilux from the weekend. Just wondering if its safe too use cut in polish on a silver hilux? Don't want to make dull spots :?

i will say yes it is BUT if you are worried about it try it on a small patch that you can not see and have a look. i polish silver cars alot and not a problem with it

Firstly, how deep is the scratch? Can you see the primer under the silver paint? Does your nail catches the scratch when going over it? Generally its safe to use a cutting compound and Polish to get back the gloss. Pictures would help btw.

I have been trying to tidy mine up from recent driving and have used heaps of different products (I have a gold '04). The one I have been happiest with is the Autoglym paint restoration one from autobarn. can get that and a few microfibre cloths for about $25, wet the cloth with water (doesn't use as much product that way) and go easy. I had some fairly noticeable scratches down the side and most are gone, but the clear coat is still sweet. a couple of the other products I used have certainly made a mess of the clear, just a bit too abrasive.

Best of luck!

To add, if your hilux's paint is still factory painted, then Meguiar's ultimate compound, few applicator pads and few pieces of Microfiber will definitely help to minimize the damage. Remember to seal the paint with either wax or sealant to protect it. Hope this helps.

I had some fairly noticable pin stripes after a trip to Toolangi. Black is a bitch when it comes to showing scratches. I first rubbed in with a microfibre cloth meguiars scratch-x 2.0. You basically keep rubbing it until no longer visible then give it a light hand buff. Then i went over it with meguiars wet look polish and then a coat of carnuba wax. Scratches all gone. Good as new :)
