Packdaddy wrote:Yeah the tracks are riveted to the roof skin, not bolted. The rivets that came with the track were pretty good, the largest size I could fit in my normal rivet gun and popping them took a two hands, but can be done with a hand riveter.

I didn't remove the roof liner either... Just by the way a drill bit works, most if the metal is brought out of the hole so not too much would be left in there anyway, plus the vacuum helps a little. For a drill stop i just used a piece of fuel hose on the drill bit, worked a treat and the only 'drill stops' I could find were really depth gauges rather than stops - they're not really strong enough to stop the drill without slipping when you push through the roof. Cut the hose as long or short as you need it and it stops up against the chuck.

I used a small block of timber cut to the length required to set the right depth with the drill passing through it. What ever works though 8-)

Is the riverting of the tracks consistent with both rhino racks and the ARB delux rack? I use a drill so frequently at work its second nature drilling into things  so ill fabricate a stop, grab a vacuum and let the savings begin :D I can spend that $225 i save fitting it on a pillar pod and the $180 i saved putting my front suspension in on a EGT and Oil Pressure gauge! Save money to spend money

Thanks guys

Not sure mate sorry. Bear in mind it's the rhino tracks we're talking about, you can get them separate to the rhino rack, and they may be compatible if you like them better

Sweet! If it's anything like the rhino tracks, it was pretty simple. Just sit the tracks in the rain channels, mark the holes, drill, paint for rust proofing, rivet the tracks down, silicon over the rivets and cut the rubber strips to fill in the ends of the channels, done!

Lets hope this is the case, haha. The guy at the ARB shop seemed pretty adamant that the roof lining had to come down. Suppose we shall find out!

Keep in mind that ARB are very profit driven and will tell you anything to make you think they can do something better. Truth of the matter is that while daunting at first, it's a pretty basic thing to do if you remember the tips you would have read on the forum. You only need basic tools and basic hand skills to install the rails. I'm happy to answer any questions about how to fit the Rhino rails. I did mine myself as did a few other guys here. We're here to help :D

Yep, agreed. It really is quite simple to do, certainly not worth $225 worth of labour

Thats the exact kind of roof track and racks i'm looking for; low and riveted into the channel.

Don't mind at all, but I didn't get them from dolium, I got them from an opposite lock store in Sydney. Dolium are the supplier but I don't think they sell directly to the public...

No worries! If that's the case you may want to pre order it, can't remember exactly how long it took but a week or two I think. They're made in WA

Does anyone know if the rhino tracks will fit on a pre 05 hilux. I'm after some roof racks exactly like your ones packdaddy, just can't seem to find info for pre 05 hilux's.

Luxxyy its all about the mounting and if the pre 05 model has a mounting point ( I imagine it would ). I had a pair of the cheaper multi fit Rhino brackets but since learnt that they are not as reliable as a bolt on kit. There are many options available once you get your racks sorted. The tiger11 platform looks ok all though I believe ATM there is some stock issues. Also Rhino have some platform racks as well. Here is a link to Rhino web site and contact details to sort out what options are available to mount. http://www.rhinorack.com.au/

Went to autobarn today to get a price. Was quoted $420 for the mounts and cross bars. Seem reasonable? I was quoted for the RLTP kit

Does the wind cheetah rack just come by itself? As in rack only and no way of attaching it? Is that why you got the rhino tracks?

Im guessing that for the pre 2005 model hilux's Rhino roof rack tracks cant be installed in the roof gutters but drilled on the roof instead :?:
