I have an older ARB Rack. I want to buy or make the brackets to bolt onto the DualCab roof so the roofrack can just cover the Cab (I have an ARB HiRise Canopy at the back), so I can carry ladders etc plus for trips.

Where can I buy JUST the Brackets and Channels to fit into the Cab Roof?

Has anyone got any detailed pictures of just the mounts/tracks?

Would the Rhino brackets bolted directly to the bottom of the ARB rack work and more importantly be strong enough for some serious 4x4ing?

Any advise or info would be appreciated.

I bought an alloy Tray from Tradesman Racks. Cost about $1400 all up shipped. Came with Rhino Rack channels to fit in the gutters and tradesman legs and platform. Looks great and feels very strong. Bloody noisy on the highway though. Here is a link to a photo of it on a Hilux

I had Rhino sports bars fitted that clamped over the side of the roof always seemed not to have any problems when camping or normal road use I went to to cape York 2011 no problems went up there again last year 2012 and while driving into port Melville doing the Starcke track from Hopevale the brackets slipped scraping my roof even after Id tightened them up they moved because of the corrugations and conditions. I was travelling with a Triton and his brackets also moved dinting his roof. This year I was going to the Simpson and over to west Aus so decided the roof rack fixture was not to the standards of off roading. I went to a reputable company here on the gold coast and got Rhino off road brackets fitted they took out the rubber strips and riveted the tracks into the roof as the Hilux hasn’t any bolt holes in the track, My mate bought his and fitted his himself my track on the right side failed the rivets popped and I had to travel with the roof rack tied down with a strap my mate left me at Alice springs to head home because of his work commitments so he didn’t do the Tanami track I’m thinking this is where it failed as he didn’t do the whole trip and he had no problems with his. I took it back to the company that fitted the track and they have admitted the rivets had failed and refitted a new track. I did not have my roof rack over loaded I had double swag spare wheel max tracks and light chairs up top and awning and tube with fishing rods The track is rated 100kg my costing for fitting and roof rails was $680 (so beware always check even if its rated off road ) this price also included a new Ariel and fitting for my uhf radio .

i have had my rhino racks on the cab for around 7 years never had an issue the ones on the canopy have loosened a few times i now carry one of there little hex tools in my glove box .I did clip a tree a few months ago on a tight section of track nearly ripped the bloody track off the roof ,a few cables ties saw me home and a bigger rivet fixed the problem but i think i will be fitting an arb or similar as i am now not happy with the possibility of the bars getting snagged !

Anyone with the windchetah platform know whether rhino fixtures like the shovel holder or the hoops to hold a 90mm PVC tube will slot into this rack. I already have clamp on rhino bars and wanting to upgrade but really want the ability to carry a long handle shovel and a tune for fishing rods. I am only seeking advice on the windchetah.

Hey 2007lux I have the rhino shovel holders on my Windcheetah rack, you just need to fit the right size bolts that fit in the tracks, easy. I might have had to enlarge the holes in the shovel holders to fit the bolts... Not 100%

Cheers. I ended up emailing them and they said much the same. The racks are now called Slimilne and not windchetah

Quick question for anyone with the rhino racks (track mount).
What is the clearance between the roof and bottom of the rack at the centre of the roof (centre left to right, not front to back)?
Also what is height from roof to top of rack at the same point?
I'm thinking of fitting a set of racks and a solar panel under the racks if there is room, but I also don't want to go any higher then my canopy.

Hey Andy666,

You can get different sized 'feet' for the Windcheetah racks. I had to go short 'feet' so I could get the ute into my garage. Here is the explanation from Dolium Pty Ltd who supply them here in Perth.

Thanks for your enquiry regarding our Roof Rack Range.

This is a nice easy one for me as I have got a SR Hilux with this rack myself and had the same problem.

The standard rack (RMRTH05-14) sits 90mm above the roof at the highest point. i.e. in the centre.

It is possible to drop this down to 70mm by using Rhino tracks in conjunction with our feet and rack. This is how I have set up my dual cab to allow as much clearance as possible

I can do further measurements, but you will not get a solar panel under the rack on my set up. I'm sure you'll be fine with the normal feet as they have a stainless steel table that fits up under their racks on runners - see their website.

925mm at the narrowest point of the legs.

Vortex bars with RLT600 (quick release) legs.

(edited to add rack type)

Awesome. What model side steps do you have? Also would it be possible to double check the height from the roof to the bottom of the cross bar if it's not too much trouble? Thanks for all your help!

The height of the rack at the centre of the roof is bang on 50 mm, no extra wiggle room in that.

This is the link to the sliders that i have.

Damn. I was hoping to squeeze a light bar in that gap. Can you use them as steps to get to your roof rack easy enough or are they too small?

I think rhino also do legs that are higher, maybe check with them, you might find something that will suit what you want.

The sliders are not very wide, but i find that if i open the car door i can stand on them easy enough and reach the roof rack.

Ok good to know, I might need some higher legs as I will be trying to match the height to and Rhino pioneer platform mounted on the canopy. Thanks again for all your help.
