On the internet you can be anything you want. It is strange that so many people choose to be stupid!

I used 6mm flat steel for the front mounting brackets. The third pic shows the mount and I replaced the original bolts in the crossmember with high tensile bolts that were a little longer. Will put up a pic of it fitted tomorrow.

$1200-$1500 ?

For those of you who want to make your own,I can make the outer rails for you for about $65 ea without the notches so you can use them with an RHS inner rail. I can also do the little supports with a notch cut into one end for $10.ea (the ones that fit between the outside rail and the inner RHS rail.) . All you have to do is then make the mounting brackets.

I could also do a complete kit (both sides, all high tensile nuts/bolts) like the 3rd pic for $350. All you have to do is weld them together or If you just want the bends I can do them for $20ea.

I used 40nb pipe (48mm outside diameter) with 3.2mm wall on my ute and had no problem lifting the car with them so they are pretty strong.

Cheers Steve

What's your tip for making your hole saw last longer?? I tried using a slow speed and cutting oil and i still destroyed one in a couple of cuts.

I use WD 40 for the lube, seems to work well . I think the holesaw is bi/metal with cobalt ?

One of the Sutton blue ones...

I finished up thinking maybe high speed was better. Low speed seemed to break a lot of teeth.

I've found the white inox branded holesaws to work/last better than those blue ones

Same with the ARB's one. Basicaly just a step.

Best to go with Buds Customs or get your own custom ones made up.

My mate is busy building his F100 so mine are on hold . Im thinkning of buying the Buds sliders to get me by or keep them and sell my custom ones with brushrails when they are finished if anyone is interensted.

Is there much benefit from step vs sliders?

A step will get cought up with how it is hanging off the chassie and just collect mud. It might not protect your pinchweild in some rare cases.

If built rite a set of slidder will just slide over a rock from the front wheel to the rear (if your wheels are still touching the ground or you have lockers to keep you moving).

I have seen the ARB steps work great on a ute but sliders just make so much more sense when you look at how they are built. I am constantly changing my design to make them as strong as possible and keep them lite'ish.

I am no expert at all. Please feel free to elaborate .... Actualy you must as i am a noob and

I'm not sure i need a slider as such, just something higher than the factory steps, and something a bit better protection too. I've bumped the factory ones up, and am not a fan the way they sit so low. Was looking at the video of the roos and what they show them doing is all I'd need it for, but can't justify the price of the ARB steps. I have little kids that still need a step that their feet aren't gonna go through.
