Are tailgates interchangeable from different models?

Hi Guys,

Did a quick search and didn't come up with what I'm looking for so here's the question...

I have a 2008 SR5 hilux with a damaged tailgate. I can find a current model SR5 tailgate cheapish so was wondering if anyone knew if they were interchangeable? I would assume so but and having a hard time finding out for sure...

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Current model is quite different

You want 2005-15 SR5 or some SR that have the same tub. Only difference is later SR5 have a camera in the tailgate and the lenses are white on later ones too.

So basically I need a SR5 tailgate from a hilux made 2005-2015.
A tailgate outside of these years won't fit my 2008 SR5 hilux?

Just avoid the 2016 models built in late 2015.

Hi mate, how did you go?

On my SR 2006 I did the mod of fitting a SR5 tailgate, need to change locks but does work.

The Camera on the SR5 built into the tailgate was from late 2013 - 2015.


Current tail gate will not fit 2005-2015 tubs.


Also the SR tubs are called J - Deck and SR5 are A-Deck hope it helps.
