Tow/Recovery points

Postby CamboT on Sun, 16 Feb 2020 6:57 +0000

So whats the definitive answer to what to use?
Most I've seen don't suit a vehicle with bullbars, so is the ARB rated bracket the only real solution?

Roadsafe recovery points seem to work with most bullbar designs (including ARB).

Just check that the recovery points don't hang too low and effectively hang you up on a rock ledge or something. The ARB recovery point is possibly the best low profile point I've seen so far.
I might be wrong.

Have checked out the Roadsafe points and they do not recommend using them if bullbars are fitted. Kinda pointless really.

That does seem strange, considering they have a bullbar compatibility table on their website. Maybe they have different rules in NZ

I just put the roadsafe ones with my xrox bar on and they blend in beautifully. It attaches to your chassis rails so should have no relevance whether you have a bullbar on or not. However some bullbars use the same holes/chassis area that the roadsafe recovery points use so maybe that's what they're getting at? I definitely recommend.

Yeah, I've been thinking of fitting them myself, my recovery hooks are on the side of the centre section, right next to where the X-Rox has the holes for recovery loops to be bolted in, made sense to me, and I didn't give it a second thought till a mate that was helping me fit my winch pointed out that they're way above the chassis rails and would lever the bar forward in a hard recovery.

I have been trying to find a recovery point which will fit my 2009 Hilux SR5 with factory alloy bar.

All places I have been to see to date have said there are no recovery points which will fit as bullbar covers required mounting points (including ARB).

What did you end up with Cambo T? What is the ARB bracket you mentioned in your first post?

Thanks

Hey Jeff

Been a while since I had to do that particular mod but I’m pretty sure it fits because it doesn’t just slap onto the outer of the bar/chassis area.

what panels do you have under the car?
If you have a genuine Bull Bar and factory under panels than the ARB Rec point will work.
It replaces the left hand radiator support (as this is the only point on the front they could get an 8t rating) and the instructions give you a plate and cutting instructions to cut the genuine bash plate to fit it through.
Any arb salesman which knows there stuff will be able to look at your car and tell you if it will fit or not.
And that goes for the under vehicle protection ARB sells also if your interested in it.

I'm making my own. The bullbar brackets for my MCC bars mean I need their propriety parts at an exorbitant price.
I can fabricate some in my engineering workshop instead.

The ARB recovery point is their lower brace replacement. Quite substantial bit of metal.

I actually gave up making these myself after an ARB recovery point came up on our local marketplace.
Was too cheap to pass up and the fella I got it from had never used it..was still in its packaging.

Is it only the ARB ones that require you to cut/drill for install?
Or does Roadsafe also?
