Bonnet Protector Problems

Postby Spitfia on Thu, 08 Sep 2016 10:08 +0000

I was looking into putting a bonnet protector on my lux and came across a post on another forum http://www.hilux4x4.co.za/views/viewtopic.php?t=30631 and was wondering if anyone here has discovered a similar issue... the gist of the issue is that installing a bonnet protector on the D4D model with a top mount intercooler and a bonnet scoop will deflect the air away from the scoop reducing the cool airflow into the intercooler and reducing performance and raising temperatures... in theory this makes sense but I'm wondering if this actually has an effect in the real world

Keen to hear if anyone has noticed a drop in performance after they have installed their bonnet protectors

The same could be said about light bars on top of the bull bar
Every second 4wd has them fitted up there and I think they look stupid on top of the bar and it must reduce air into the intercooler

I cant see a genuine style one making any difference but those stupid ones with the big lip to kick the air etu up could.

Hey mate,

I asked this question as well last year. In the end, I did get the bonnet protector and haven't had issues thus far - or, if I have, I haven't recognised them.

I have always reset my trip counter after every fill up at the servo and have installed a bonnet protector since buying my hilux. I can safely say that I always get 650+ Kms on a tank and this was the case with and without the bonnet protector.

Hope this helps :)
