Installing Rhino Track Mount Roof Racks

Hey I am thinking of doing a self install on some rhino track mounts, the instructions say "Pneumatic or concertina type rivet gun" is required to fit the rivets. I only have the al-cheapo pop rivet gun. Can I still do it? Why do they specify the type of gun?

It's very difficult for the pop gun to pull the pin out. Good tools save your time.
My stanly pop rivet gun wont work either. Or maybe i am not strong enough.......

So with some muscles and slowly crunching away I should be able to get them in?

I haven't got them yet, rrp is $480 I think plus installation. Deciding whether to buy online and do it myself or not.

I think you can get a pair around $440 and free delivery on ebay. Easy for DIY if you have the right tools.

I did mine with a normal pop rivet gun. Definitely hard and you really need to make sure your fingers are out of the way when the rivet stem lets go. The worst bit is drilling holes in your roof. :? Use a bit of silicone around the holes.

Cheers,

Chris.

I got mine for about 430 from ARB from memory.

also, I used a piece of brass tube to slide over the drill bit as a stop point as you can only go through about 6mm on one of the holes above the rear doors because of the airbag canister thingy ma bob being mounted straight under the channel.

*edit*

I used this bugger for the rivets

Yeah I don't have side airbags so didn't have to worry about that but still need to be careful so as not to drill through the roof lining.

Cheers,

Chris.

I just got some rhino racks fitted the aero heavy duty ones!
Arb fitted them for me and did a nice job.
BUT- I'm takin them back as when I hit 60kms it sound like I'm being followed by a jet engine or about to take off!
I can can feel the drag on the car!
As soon as I take the foot off the accelerator the rate the cars slows down has increased by 5.
Like letting out a parachute!

Aero my arse!!!

I know some might say they will always make some sort of noise,
But my old commodore wagon never did with he old trusty rola racks!

So my advise would be steer clear of rhino! As much as they have great accessories!

Sounds like you need to fit some muddies! Whistle from the bar work will be the least of your worries then!

I can honestly say that I have never noticed the road noise from my Rhino Commercial bars but they are fitted on the canopy not right overhead.

Hi Everyone,
Its been a while since this way posted, but thought i might just ask a quick question.

I have an 06 lux and installed an Arb roof rack the basket type one and i hardly ever use it..
If i was to remove the rack i would have 4 holes in my roof, would any have a suggestion for me?

I was thinking of installing these rhino tracks to make the roof flat and to cover the holes up.

Thanks
Dennis

I've got the tracks on my tub. You'd have to drill more holes to properly attach the rail, I'd just buy rivets to fit the holes left by your web roof rack and then make sure you push some silicon in before pop rivetting

Tracks installed quiet easy did it with a king chrome hand pop rivet gun not a cheapy
Just a few questions
What space should i have between the front and rear bars?
And should there be a wedge under the front or rear bar mounts?ive put the wedge under the front set.

I layed a straight edge across from the front to rear bars and they arnt flat

The legs are RLT600 bars are HD square type

I have the aero bars on mine with a third bar on the canopy. I have a 10mm spacer under the rear bar to clear the side opening doors. The legs on the canopy & rear of the cab are 150mm & the front legs are 130mm. Gives it a bit of downward slop but there flat across the 3.
I have the bars on the cab as far apart as they can be & I have no wedges under them.

I just purchased a set of Rhino rails from my local Toyota dealer
Came with pop rivets, End caps, The 2 rails and instructions for $220 nz
The rivets don't look any different to those I used to clad my covered in bike trailer (yes they do require a good healthy squeeze to do the job)
I'm off wheeling this weekend so will post a photo in the appropriate section when the jobs done
