DIY Spray Tub Liner

Postby 02agro on Sun, 29 Jul 2012 12:47 +0000

hay guys 2day i ended up doin my tub liner spray job just thought id share some pics i was abit hesistant to use the spray on but after hearing nothing but good feedback from few blokes doin it id give it a crack

first step was to mask up i decided to spray my SR tub hooks for something different so didnt have to tape them up
time saver. used the blue uni pro tape works a treat no residue supersticky.

second step: mix up paint on liner
this package is a mix in bottle and spray kit so u just add hardener into bottle shake it up screw it to the gun and go..

after 2 coats i was happy with its consistancy and was left with a full bottle for further touch ups if required. which is ideal, 8-)

Third step un mask its important to take tape of when its dry so any bits that fold up on u and touch the car dont mark it very helpfull.

fourth step sit back and sip on a beer and admire your work

ebay i found was the cheapest if u not in a rush to get it from states and also some kits come with a gun some dont. So add the cost of a gun which is about $30. Mine worked out at $190 without gun as i have a few here from painting boats/cars ect 8-)

I've just done mine too with the Raptor liner, it looks great but I've already scratched it, so much for heavy duty  don't own a big compressor so I rolled mine on, got 3 coats out of it with one bottle to spare

Here you are mate, excuse the quality, its off my phone

Very happy with the end finish, like I said it looks awesome, but it doesn't seem to be too tough, at least when you're throwing bits of steel in the back anyway, scratches right through it.

One word of advice though, if you can help it don't use a "sheepskin" fluffy roller, as I had little bits of fluffy through the paint at the end. Not a big drama, but I've since noticed that a lot of people on Youtube use foam rollers. Can't vouch for the finish with a foam roller but...

i had 5 snowboards in the tray sliding around last weeknd and upon inspection as i got home i didnt have any marks at all in mine after reading your post about it scratching was abit worried, but seems to be holding up fine.. i did add more hardener then required and let it sit in sun for 5 days without use... saying that its would mark up if u were to throw steel around in there like a work truck.

What type of prep did you put into the tray before you sprayed on the linner? ie sanding or some sort of primer to help it stick to the tray?

X2, sanded with wet and dry 120 grit, washed with car wash then wiped it over with wax and grease remover

Any one ever tried painting the whole ute in bed liner?
I was thinking about it Might look a bit "mad max" but Im not too worried about it being pretty. I saw a mithbusters i think it was where they used it on a car exterior and it held up well

Have seen a couple of products one is called Hippo liner from supercheap and this one http://www.permanentpaintedcoatings.co. ... erKit.aspx

I have seen a fj that had it done. Not sure it would be the best thing to wash after getting muddy and a real head fu(k if you don't like the end result. You go first mate ;)

That is a tidy job agro. I recently got mine sprayed by extreme coatings (not too handy with the spray gun) and your looks similar.
If anyone else is looking to get their tub lined Jayden in Adamstown newcastle Extreme Coatings did mine for $750 cash. Toyota wanted to charge me $1095 pre purchase. Cheeky!
Life time warranty on chipping and cracking, happy with it.
