Strangenuts, did you fit yours yourself? I'm tackling my T15 winch bar this weekend. Have to do the front bumper cut, should be fun :? ....any tips?

Just threw away $2400.00 on an ARB Sahara bar, I reckon they look the goods on the Hilux.
Getting it color matched so still a couple of weeks off its ready to go on.

Yeah I might as well just get the ARB one. Spoke to the Cessnock dealer and he said they've fitted them before with no troubles with the suspension and he didn't think there was much difference between fitting a Toyota steel one and an ARB one. He suggested the ARB one though because the Toyota ones are made for pedestrian "safety" ;)

I just got my new hilux and had the factory alloy Toyota one fitted. I'm very happy with it and looks great. Cost about $2600 so similar to ARB prices I had. Can;t hold a winch though.

Most my time is city driving so hopefully I won't hit a roo and find out how strong it really is.

Goose

Hey Goose, you lucky bugger. They tell me there's about a 5 month wait haha. That's about the same price I got quoted too. I'm considering just getting that alloy one so I don't have to worry about the ARB ones weight. Seems to be a mixed bag of people whos front sat fine and whos front end sagged. Maybe I just think too much

Worth the wait. Mine took exactly 4 months to get her in WA from day I ordered it.

What put me off steel was I once tried to lift an old steel bar and was amazed at how heavy they are. Really depends on how much night/bush driving you are going to do.

The waits going to be the hardest bit
Yeah fair enough. For me it's more driving to and from work at dusk and dawn. That's when all the roos like to come out and play. They can be big buggers too.

Do the suspension upgrade..... it will save the tears later on.
And once the modding bug bites, you may weigh in at 1340kgs over the front axle :o

I might. My bank account will hate me. I have to have some money for spotties too
Wow, that's pretty insane for the front axle. I suppose when you take in to account bullbar, side rails, secondary batteries, winches, spotties, aerials and whatever else you can add on it makes sense

Yes,everything adds up. I have all those things ( not the side rails ) plus MR sliders and bash plates. Even bigger steel rims and tyres adds up...... so choose your suspension upgrade wisely !

I have a 2012 SR5 lux with the ARB bar & winch and bigger tyres. Had to fit a 2" lift to stop the tyres scrubbing on full lock. All works great.

Very nice! :D

How do you guys rate the OME suspension upgrade ARB sell? I've heard there's better, like Dobinson, but for the convenience of getting the bull bar and suspension fitted at the same time, is OME alright?

Hi,

Just purchased a 2012 25 December model SR5 with so many extras, ARB Smooth finish Canopy, ARB Deluxe Winch Bullbar, Two way radio GME, Tow bar, electric brake unit, Cage top on canopy, 2x IPF 901 XS spotlights, Ute Liner, Dual Socket 12 in tray. After all this no one has told me about upgrading suspension to cope with weight.

This is a real issue this weigh on the suspension isn't it. What kind of $$$ am i looking at to fix this issue ??????

My friendly Toyota dealer service dept. have told me that by fitting a bar, other than the genuine article, they alter the airflow & create a whistling noise. This is caused by air flowing over a hole in the top of each lower wish bone in the front suspension. He fitted 2 little plastic grommets which blocked off the holes-no more whistle.
I have a current model SR Xtra cab with a TJM bar.

Can everyone talk with experience that just because you add a steel bar you won't cause the front end to sag?

You'll nearly always get a little. I doubt ya would with the current genuine bar as it looks to made from recycled milo tins!

Everyone would have noticed how much sag happens just when a driver sits in the car (depends on how heavy he/she is), and that is with the driver is behind the front wheel.
So with a 60kg+ steel bullbar in front of the front axle, there is a fair bit of weight supported by the front suspension.
What a lot of people seem to disregard is the compression and rebound rate of front stock suspension isn't really set for the constant load of a steel bullbar. Maybe some suspension specialists can give a better answer.
But hey, Toyota did say the Hilux now comes with tougher suspension. It will be good to see how much tougher they are.
You, Hilux owner driving the other way, I salute you!
