I am getting a SR + VSC pack with a tray. I am just wondering- Those of you with trays what sizes do you have?? I am thinking 1900L from the front of the head board to the outside of the rear tail gate (with the tray sitting around 20mm off the cab) and 1900W out side to out side. I have spoken to a couple of tray makers and they have said they make them 1900W as the Hilux with the flares looks wider and if they make them narrower they don't look right, and they make them whatever length you want. Any feed back would be appreciated.
Hi Ringer, Mine is 1800 x 1800 and was made by a local business, they have been building trays for years. I think 1900 long is on the larger side and your starting to get a fair it of overhang past the rear axle. A lot of guys are going shorter these days
FCCW Brusa. ....the more hair I lose, the more head I get..... brusa@newhilux.net
Mines 1800Wx1850L with a trundle tray under it (perfect for recovery gear etc) I had it built by Bathurst Body Works they done an awesome job and totally recommend them.Bathurst Toyota use them for all their work.
I think 1800 wide is perfect.. 1850 absolute Maximum. Length i think if you want it too luck tuff 1400-1600 long or if it needs to be more practical for tradie etc 1800 long would be max, anything longer is having way to much overhang for the DC.
Your tray looks longer than 1630. The Toyota trays are 1890 long not that I am going with them. I am going with Dekker trays Adelaide with an under tray slide out draw and 2 dog boxes. It is just the size I want to get right. I don't want too much over hang otherwise it will look like a Triton............ UGLY.
Depends what you want to carry.Short ones look good, but no good for touring.I can have decent size boxes down each side and the trail bike down the middle or quad on and boxes on same side.Plus having the longer tray I put the rack over the 2 bars on the tray roof top tent on and still have room on the front of the rack and nothing has to go on the roof of the lux.
I would go 50 mm behind cab. You will get some flex. I opted for 1700 x 1600 long to suit cab width when i made mine & and then made checker flares to suit front.
i'd go 1850w, my 265's hang out just past the edge of the tray. I'm goona get a steel tray made up and itll be 1850w for a bit more cover. my alloy tiger tray is only 1700L and as a tradie its no dramas.
Mine is 30mm off the cab and 1900x2000, can still tow with it no dramas and it doesn't look overly big. Weigh up what your going to be doing with it, I needed the length for work, and to be able to put my surfboard in it I had my alloy tray made from heavy duty brand new seconds materials, a scratch here a water mark there nothing serious at all and was around $900 fit it myself.
I fitted my tray/toolboxes in the last few days 1800 x 1800mm modified MAC built tray. turned out good with some welding and a coat of paint, nice an strong,.........

Definately no photo shopping Normal legal tray length 1800x1800mm then add the extention takes it to 1800x2400mm same as single tray length. Only have the extended version on when camping.
