Roof rack overhang windscreen

Postby ng_newbie on Thu, 30 Jun 2022 5:51 +0000

G'Day Guys

I couldn't help myself and pulled the trigger on a full blown roof rack kit with a tray ( not platform ) due to this post

https://www.newhilux.net/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=86&t=32068

Rhino have a gr8 deal EOFY 50% disc. for a LC 3xbar kit and I'm going to hang the front over the windscreen like this

http://ozutz.com.au/blog/images/Roof-ra ... screen.png

Then install LED bar and 400W panel on the over hang to not overload the front.

Anyone got a full length rack ( overhang ) setup ?

Did you use bar work vertical bar to support front of overhang or a diagonal from back of bonnet ?

TIA

If solar panels and a light bar are the only things going on the overhang, then weight is unlikely to be of concern. You will probably need to consider wind flow and wind drag. Both these things will place near constant stresses on all mounting joints and connection points.

This is the part that really worries, after all the work I get noise so bad I cannot use the mobile or listen to stereo !!!

I'm hoping someone has got a rhino tray and can tell me a few tricks to stop the noise.

If you can figure out exactly where the noise is coming from then you've taken the first step. My old Patrol the noise was coming from the wind flexing the wire mesh. Put an extra spare tyre up there resolved it. In another thread the other day someone pointed out that noise also occurs with wind over any holes in the system. Block up the holes with rubber plugs or silastic and you should be ok. Let us know how you go.

Thanks for the idea.

I have got it installed, turned out so much better than I though it would, but can't get the photos to 'stick' !!!

Will add an article with text wrapped around the pics ASAP.
