Recovery Point-HELP needed

Postby MyLux_08 on Fri, 28 Nov 2014 8:33 +0000

I did a search on the forum and google but doesn't seem like the problem I'm having has been addressed so please excuse my ignorance if it has been discussed before.

So I bought a pair of recovery points which said they would fit the hilux 05+, however when I looked the spot where they are supposed to fir it seems like there needs to be a fair bit work done before they can go in.

So I'm wondering if anyone has done this before and is it safe to play around with it?

What bullbar mount is that?

Most recovery points are suitable - but it also depends on the bullbar and how your bullbar is mounted.
I wouldn't be cutting into the bracket or chassis, def wouldn't be safe. Though I don't see an issue with using just two bolts instead of all 3 (I'd check with the supplier first though, i'm no engineer!).

Mine are similar, but only have two points holding it together, and holds fine:

Thanks Jay, I've got the factory steel bulbar and that bracket is the supporting bracket for it.

Ideally I should have got rid of that bulbar a long time ago it looks like a failed nose job :) but finances are tight at the moment so I have to live with it.

They won't work with an ARB bar either as the wings get in the way unless you want to do away with the side wings.

I did it, just have to cut abit of the bullbar mounting plate for the shackle pin to go through. Fairly straight forward.

Is it safe to snatch off the points in the front if I put a bridle strap off both sides to half the strain

Assuming you're talking about the welded on tiedown points... You aren't ment to, but everyone does it. A proper recovery point is obviously the safest way.

I'm trying to sort out recovery points at the moment also. To work with my Sahara bar it looks like I'll have to modify the under wing panels to make any fit. Like kizzzaaa has done
The ARB won't work as I have MR bash plates and I won't cut a hole in them and in my opinion the ARB point is too low.

I just put self drilling metal screws in the splash guard because it moved 10mm out. And just the grinding of area to allow the shackle pin to go through. I've been snatched using a bridle off mine twice and the points Haven't moved.

I've also searched and see mentions on websites in regards to Recovery Points and factory bullbars....can't find anything that says ya, nay or you need this or that type.

I have the Toyota bullbar. It does look a little low if recovery points are installed. Also, from what I've read here so far, the recovery points are dependent on your bullbar.

I asked at ARB and the guy said it should be OK (prob after 2" lift...thats another topic I'm researching). Though they quoted $320 fitted (inc GST) for a single.

Can you get recovery point with toyota bullbar? And is that price 'reasonable'. I would prefer 2 front points (also interested in a rear...do these all mount to the tow bar or are they an replacement for the towball (pin in recovery toungue)?

Don't plan on doing extreme offroad (but getting around Fraser island ....and outback Oz....probably end up towing a camper trailer too.

If there are posts hiding somewhere on this site, please link me.

Can't really say for the factory bullbar - but it might be worth going to some fabricators and getting their opinions. The front recovery points just need to be mounted to the chasis, and should cost less than the ARB quote.

Mine are from https://allterrain4x4.com.au/ - might be worth shooting them a message and seeing if there'd be an issue. Mine were about $140 for two from memory, and easy to fit myself.

As for the rear, it's just a switch from the towball to the recovery hitch with the pin.
Cheers,
Jay

I have bought the same ones as Kizzaa has, and yes have to make a small cut on each side because of the bull bar (arb bar on a 2013 hilux)

other than that, pretty straight forward. I believe they were made by roadsafe http://roadsafe.com.au/4wd/tow-points/. you can get them on ebay.
