G'day everyone, I was after some advice and opinions of fitting a Steel or Alloy Bullbar. If it's steel I will be fitting an ARB Deluxe Winch Bar. Could you please advise me steel or alloy and if alloy which brand of bar. I have a 2012 SR Dual Cab with flares and want to set it up for touring and need some sort of proection up front for touring.
Thanks alot Ron.

Comes down to weight and strength!
I would be sticking with the steel, nice, strong and arb delux bars have a pretty good name for them selves...

Thanks Jack, that's what I'm weighing up so to speak. Can't beat steel for strenght but was looking at saving weight on the front end. Does anyone have an alloy bar that there happy with and more so has anyone hit a roo or something and had it survive? Cheers Ron.

I hit a roo at 70kmp with my alloy bar and the bar only shifted 10mm in on impact side and 10mm out on the other side, mind you it was a deflective hit but still I felt it and the bar is still fine.

Another brand is those smart bars made of plastic. Does anybody have or know somebody who has/had one of the plastic bars? Thanks Ron.

Have seen those smart bars and I think they are ugly as f*#%k... Thats my opinion anyway

As for the alloy bar east coast bullbars do one and it doesn't look to bad at all... Inlaws had one on their last lux

Arb deluxe bar every time!! I hit a roo at 100km head on with my old lux and no damage, not so good for the roo though.I have the brush bars on mine aswell on the new lux and they have saved the guards a couple on times.

Hey mate there isn't actually a lot of weight difference between steel and alloy due to the allowing bar having to be made with thicker materials to get any strength out of them. Is go steel. Only problem with steel is they do rust, but if you keep touching it up you should have no dramas. It would take a bloody long time to rust through but just something to think about. ;)
