D4D into 167 series

So with alot of help from a few good mates we are 70% through an engine conversion in my 167 series hilux the motor is in (1kd ftv) with wiring and steering to be completed still.

I was wondering if anyone on here has also done this conversion and if they had any info they would like to share?

Anything can be done, and it has been done before, it's just not worth it even if u get the motor for free
You'll need the full wiring harness and keys, including ignition barrel, and make sure it's from an sr so you don't need to bypass abs, airbags, electric Windows and what not

You'll walk out cheaper with an LS engine and 6speed auto, it's been done to death, so everything is off the shelf

Looks like you have a whole spare SR so you will have all the harnesses etc..

Should be a good thing if you ask me.

I just wish someone would hurry up and do it (or LS with the A750F 5spd auto) in 2005-2015 Hilux so it is off the shelf! My 2011 is getting older every year waiting! Marks 4WD sell everything to fit an LS into the Hilux but the CANBUS comms is the issue not yet resolved.

That's the easy part
Msd make heaps of standalone harness
Cheapest way is patrol transfer case with o 6l80e box or Gm imported 6l80e with factory transfer case
Many run the 4 speed auto due to harness being easier when the auto doesn't require anything

Too hard, would be almost easier to fit a whole VE-VF ute on a GU Patrol chassis!
You have to keep the Toyota ECU for all dash and other functions, and to control the A750F if you keep it. Then run the GM ECU for the LS1/2/3 and the 6L80E if you use it. No need to import a 6L80E, you can use a VE-VF one and Marks 4WD adapter to the transfer.
Marks couldn't get the two ECU's to work together so abandoned it for the time being.
By off the shelf I mean buy the bits and fit it all over a couple of weeks, hoses, aircon, all plug and play. Like Marks 4WD do for Patrols.

check youtube theres a few conversions going on.. no harder than any other conversion these days, you will need some wiring knowledge and and ecu to get it all happening for you..

You don't need Gm ecu if using 6l80e or if using 4l80e you can standalone or full manual valve body (4l80e only)
Main resion to import trans is cost
By the time you buy ls3,6l80e with full ecu harness, patrol transfer case and marks adaptors kits your 10-12k (8-9 eng&trans, 2k adaptor kit, 5-600 transfer case) before you even start buying all the little bits to install, so easy 15k before engineers and your engine has no warranty and 65-95k on it at least, and wiring harness will be a pain to install due to pre set lengths and no instructions

You import because, Gmh sell new crate for 7k with warranty, escalade 6l80e 2k imported, standard alone harness between 1-2k depending on brands psi cheaper, msd close to 2k
Prices are same 10-11k except new engine, easier wireing system, with instruction, no alarm and anti thrift starting issues, and all new, only old part is trans witch you would have had anyway
And if you do power upgrades down the line you can reprogram not need to pay 1k for dyno tune, as long as there within the permeates

You need the GM ECU if you want it to easily pass emissions hence Engineering, in NSW at least.

any decent engine tuner can easily pass emissions criteria with after market ecu,
i had a rotary engineered with aftermarket ecu, it was running at idle cleaner than a ve dunnydore,
that where they check it

I bought a complete donor car (sr)so all the wiringloom/ecu/key etc will come out of that.. the electrical side is deffinetly going to be the hard part! Lucky i know a good auto sparky haha

You'll need it, + a good metal worker and interior guy, as when transplanting like this you'll find it easier to do whole instrument gluster, and steering colum while your at it
Will be a nice setup once engineered,
In my option only worth doing if you plane to keep it a while longer, as the increase in value is very minimal,

Not in NSW. Costs a fortune to prove emissions, and it isn't just at idle for a 2011. Using GM ECU is easy as it already complies as long as the tune is stock.
I'll leave this thread alone now for Addz

So we finished the conversion a month or so ago, the ute drives so much better now, Im so happy with it! Anyway theres only 1 problem to sort out and that a egr code and a slight surging issue,

Ive sent hours on the site and google trying to pinpoint the issue, the egr system has been competely cleaned out so Im thinking the egr valve itself is done is this common?

well done. i would love to hear some details on how you did the wiring, dash etc.

I can't really give you much info on the wiring because i just watched my mate do it.. but basically we used the d4d wiring loom to start the car once it was in, then used it as a template to create a whole new harness, the instrument cluster also needed to be re-calibrated to receive the signal from the cpu, the original accelerator pedal was removed and the d4d pedal installed

Wow! Great to see something out of the ordinary
By the looks of the modifications done to make this work, I'm sure there will be many questions to come
Thanks for sharing.
