Hey guys
This has probably been done to death but I can't find any decent info.
I have my chip ready to hook up but I am worried about exhaust temps going through the roof and blowing the motor. eBay has a full top mount air to air intercooler kit for a good price. Has anyone got one of these? How did it go? Easy to put on? Performance difference? Also as mine is the efi 1kz donk. The alloy intake pipe from the turbo to the intake manifold has a plug on it like a sensor for something. With the intercooler obviously it has to come off I just need to know what this plug is do I need it and will the engine run and drive properly without it. If not where do I plug it into? The kits I've seen on eBay are all for 02 - 05 1kz efi donks not the old mechanical ones. So it should work right But just need to make sure before I order one. Any replies and feedback is much appreciated. Also how do I upload pics on here from an iPhone?
Cheers

Pics you need photo bucket or another app the same,
As for chip that will all depend on what brand you have

Do you have an egt temp gauge
That is more important then anything else, stay under 550, so when close back off till your down to 500,

Top mount cooler are good but you need a way to cool it,
Water to air better but $2500
Front mount is easie also, just make sure you buy a know brand and not a good price brand, because if it brakes contaminant will enter engine

Yer I have egt gauge already. stock I've hit 550 foot to the floor with no load on up a hill. Will an intercooler drop the temps heaps cause I think the chip will sent egts through the roof. I wanna do a top mount.

With a small front mount I've see a drop of around 30 with an increase of 5psi (7 to 12psi)
And with bigger you'll be able to run more boost for the same temp
The 1kzte pump can be manual adjusted (or so I've herd on other forums) so if you run too hot you can back fuel off,

Yer righto I don't think you can adjust the efi 1kz pumps but the red dirt diesel chip I got has an adjuster on in. Might get a boost controller too and jump it up a couple psi to even out the air fuel ratio. Just don't wanna blow up the donk from high exhaust temps.

Also know anything about this sensor I was talking about its on the alloy pipe right near where it goes into the intake manifold.

Pretty sure HPD do a top mount and a front mount to suit the 1kz engine. When I was getting serious about my old girl, I was going to look at a Denco diesel water to air, not cheap though.

A quick Google and see there are many post on adjusting fuel with the 1kzte engine, weather they work or not I can't tell you because I have never done a 1kz

I know you can adjust it buy adjusting the timing control valve
Might be worth googling that as well

There are a few things you can do to reduce engine/exhaust temps.

-Snorkel can in some cases reduce intake temp.
-Front mount intercooler will give you the best performance in relation to intake temp as it isn't restricted as much in relation to space but at a cost of lag.
-Better quality coolant (Toyota genuine) because it has better temp transfer properties than your cheap stuff.

But at the end of the day if you fell like you may risk your engine for a few more KW then is it really worth it?
