Turbo whine p0046

Hey guys I was driving up the highway the other day (the day after having the injectors replaced) and got a check engine light and checked with my scanner and got code p0046, cleared the code but the car sounds like it's supercharged a very loud whine (louder at low boost)
I have checked the hoses and nothing is loose
It still drives fine and boosts properly to 15psi
I'll try up load a video
Any advise?

Ya sure ya alternator hasn't packed it in?? Sounds like mine when the alternator shat itself! Happened very sudden like someone flicked a switch, parked it one night and the next morning it started the whine.

Yea I'm sure, my cousins car did that.
It's defiantly turbo related
And the fault code also came up

This may help if you have access to a Techstream or other diagnostic tool. Perhaps you can get enough from this to fix it. The guy fitting the injectors would have had to unplug a few things to do the job. Maybe just check all connectors he would have played with first. Worth a try maybe.
Cheers.

I'm wondering if the whine is coincidental to the DTC. It almost sounds like something stuck in the surpentine belt which increases in pitch as the engine spins faster and the belt turns faster. May be worth a look also. Quite often the simplest small thing can cause what seems like a huge problem.
Cheers again.

P0046 fault code is the DC motor or something else related to it.
Freeze frame data is the go for this problem. It will help you sort it out.
Freeze frame data is the conditions the engine was travelling at when the fault code occurred.

I hope it's something simple, I haven't had the best luck with the ute lately.
When you guys say dc motor, is that the stepper motor?
And with the freeze frame software will it still work even tho I cleared the code and it haven't shown up again but the noise is still there, it's really loud
Sounds like a police siren

No mate, the freeze frame is related to the code trigger. You will have to wait till it throws another code.

Ok, thought so.
Drove it for a couple of hours since and the light hasn't returned

hey dano85 did you work out what the problem was at all?? mine is doing the same thing...I was also driving on the highway on the way home from cape York a couple weeks ago..suddenly the car went into limp mode and check engine light came up but after disconnecting the main ground from the batteries the car has been fine but that noise has started.

Not yet, I'm going to pull it out some time this week, I can see my stepper motor working when an assistant revs the car so I don't think that's it.
I had a look at the compressor wheel and it looks fine with minimal shaft play so I think the issue is in the back half on the exhaust side, the sound got so loud the other day I'm not driving it anymore.

It's time to take it to someone who can give you a professional opinion, Dano.

Yet to find a professional I trust around my way.
Took the turbo out today and it looked ok on first inspection spins freely, minimal shaft play, no visual signs of damage, removed the stepper motor and the vein rod moved freely and I have seen the steeper motor moving the rod when it was in the car so all good there, the code had not shown up since the noise first started.
However when I looked down the exhaust intake to the turbo you can see the ends of the exhaust wheel are damaged, chipped-bent etc.
What would have caused this?

The veins don't contact the turbine wheel

At a glance it looks like the ends have melted a bit? Need some none hungover eyes to double check.
