Think the CAT oil is just a MOBIL blend. Look at the specs and compare with the manufactures requirements

May be a little heavy for the middle of winter, but in summer when it's hot could be ideal I think. Or if you live in the Kimberley, northern Qld or the territory a great oil all year round. It's not the 40 that's an issue it's the bottom 15 bit at startup on a cold day. cheers.

Have read into the additive packs Cat have blended into their oils, I seem to think they're a bit heavy on the detergent for smaller more efficient engines.

Hmm, if that is true about the addictive packs added it may be a good oil to use for the people who have had to flush their engines after the injector seat fails?

Probably nothing wrong with a good detergent pack, It keeps your engine clean. Diesel oils are supposed to be high detergent, It's what makes them diesel oils as opposed to petrol oils and these light weight oils that are promoted as suitable for petrol and diesel engines, It keeps your engine clean after all that crud has been put into it via the filthy diesel fuel. A good diesel oil coupled with 5k oil changes would give you a really really long life engine.
Cheers.
