Hey guys..please read before telling me to search ect...I have a early 06 hilux that has a rattle when cold, that turns to a lighter rattle when warn..I have replaced the injectors (with bailey blue printed ones) and the same sound..bailey said to check suction control valve and egr which has been done and scv replaced...still have the problem? They told me to pull the injectors out and inspect the pistons for cracks/detonation..but I don't have the time to do that at the moment..

I was wondering if it could be excessive carbon build up on the pistons or in the inlet manifold somewhere....or possible the injector pump? Ah I forgot to mention that the new injectors where coded and the coefficients and within +- 1(and so where the old injectors)

The ute has just over 260 000km thats why im thinking carbon??

And all the values seem ok againts the oem specs (using techstream)

Any help would be great!! Thanks
Jono

Ps anyone had their ecu "reflashed" by toyota? Baileys seem to think all they do is recode the injectors?

When you did the EGR did you also do the rest of the system with EGR4 - EGR aerosol cleaner?

Just a thought but really wouldnt explain a rattle...

Cheers for the replys...egr was cleaned with carbi cleaner...yeah I was going to try the decarb next...

im just woundering if its something else...its almost like to different rattles (the slight diesel rattle is ok..but when cold its very load.and when hot its under light loads and full load....

I might try running check mode again and see if it will pull a code..

cheers

Well I have done the decarb (barley blew any smoke)..but I did notice that the primer pump was soft...pumped it firm and a few seconds later goes soft..so im thinking its sucking air...replaced fuel filter and hose clamps but same thing...the rail pressure seems to be within specs but I was woundering if the air could cause a slight rattle..or possibly less fuel (ie running lean)

any ideas?????? Thanks

The primer will always go soft again as the pressure bleeds back to the tank on its own.

I cant help re the rattle sorry. You sure it's an injection knock and not a mechanical knock? Bearing, tappet etc?

Cheers mate..is it worth putting in a one way valve? Its not a knock. .it sounds like a ping in a petrol engine....im not sure if its standard to the d4d as I have never heard a new one running...

I had same with my hilux 2007 d4d knock on cold start went quieter as it warmed also told it was injectors replaced with baileys etc still knocking ..removed and cleaned this and that told by baileys to check pistons etc tick done still knocking....should have gone with my un qualified heart and I always thought it was mechanical ie bearing or similar checked oil pickup didn't look good so Id say mine was mechanical and am going down the new replacement motor road hence my other post cant be bothered chasing my tail do the job once and do it so its fixed...good luck with yours hope the outcome is less $$$$.. :D

You could always ad 2 stroke oil to the fuel in the next tank. Around 200:1 if it quietens down somewhat then you will have eliminated the mechanical knock as the issue.
if it's still no better chances are it's mechanical. I have seen a couple of oil pick ups totally clogged causing all sorts of dramas. For the time you might as well remove the sump take a look with your klms there's every chance it has a build up
