Hey guys I have a 2009 hilux sr when I drive and motor is under load there is no rattle but if I just cruise and with my foot just on the pedal I can get it to make a slight rattle sound no idea where it's coming from it hasn't gotten any worse or better. Just wondering what it could be looking for any ideas. Cars got 120,000 on it does not blow any white smoke or anything. It is spraying a small amount of black soot on the towbar but I'm thinking my egr is blocked. Which I'm cleaning out next week. Any ideas ?

I think I know the sound you mean. My 2010 sr5 does the same thing. Doesn't make the noise when driven harder, only when light throttle is being used. Got about 100,000 on mine, I've had it for 15,000. Seems to go away after about 10 mins of driving on mine. Might be something to do with the warm up cycle. It's not a harsh sound like a faulty injector, just a bit louder than when it's warm.
I'd be interested to know if your cleaning makes any difference.

It won't. A common dsl rattle. But get your injector feedback figures check just to be safe.

I have a 2012 hilux 2.5 sounds crap performs crap great on fuel (10000miles only) is this normal

Mine has done that from new, its an auto and rattles when you just feather on a little power going round roundabouts and things. Told the service guys about it and was told that the service manager drives every completed service and would pick up anything out of the ordinary like that. So apparently it is normal.

I never noticed it in any of the work Hilux's but they were all manual.

Question for boxhead,

Is it normal practice for the dealer to put the scantool on every car during service, I would have thought they would, and if so can I ask for a printout of the readings. It is going in for its 60 000 in a week or so.

mines a manual and still under manu warranty, might take it to local dealership and get it checked!!
apart from that all seems well
