rough idle and blue smoke

Postby southernlux15 on Wed, 02 Apr 2014 11:30 +0000

Hi All

My 2003 SR5 Hilux has recently started to idle really rough, when it is started cold it runs fine but when it warms up it runs terrible at an idle as though it wants to cut out. It is also puffing out blue smoke out the exhaust when it is at an idle and under load, the back tail gate is black with soot from the exhaust, it has a little bit of lost power but apart from the blue smoke it runs fine when not at a idle. If anyone has any ideas of what the problem could be it would be much appreciated.

thanks

Which engine is it? The 1KZ or the 5L-E?
Anyway, rough idle when the engine is warm, can be a few things.
The 1KZs had a cylinder head problem.
They also had a problem with the tips of the glow plugs breaking off, and then embedding itself into the top of the piston, in that cylinder.

Just let us know which engine you have.
You should change out your glow plugs and injectors in the 1KZs, every 100,000kms.
Thanks, the Roo.

New DENSO Injectors are the go! New genuine parts.
Cheers, Anth - Technician - 1KD-FTV

Check your injectors about every 10,000k.
WARNING check oil pickup screen is clear
no chips no tune ups - why increase risk of piston cracking?
