Turboing ln167 2005

Hi guys I'm just want to get a turbo for my 2005 ln167 hilux, it's very sluggish, I just want to know the best place in nsw to get it done and how much it will cost, hopefully not to pricey

I'm also interested in putting a turbo on my 2000 LN167R. I've heard that you can fit a CT20 aftermarket turbo off a Hilux Surf onto the 5L/5L-E engine. This would be the cheapest option available.

Hi all. New to the forum. I have a 2000 4x4 ln167r with 5L engine. Done about 160,000km. Are there any known issues with putting a turbo on this engine? Any advice appreciated before I take the plunge.

Yes, keep your psi pretty low. Definitely not above 11psi.

You'd just need a turbo kit and exhaust for yours and you should be fine.

most buy a kit and fit themselves
the ale needs a chip to suit the turbo/kit the 5l need to be dyne tuned, so allow a few 100 for that,
most shelf kits run 7psi, 2.5" exhaust no cooler, with a custom chip or tune no cooler 9-10psi is as high as i would go,
if you decide to go 3" and air/air cooler with the ct20 13-14psi and water/air 15-16psi
you also need to know what ct20 you need, water or oil cooled
earlie surf are oil and most newer kits are water

have you thought about just fitting a 1kzte?

Is it hard to fit a kit yourself? I'm pretty handy and have done everything to my car myself but I'm no mechanic?
I have thought about replacing with a 1kzte but the 5L I have has been well looked after

If it's a 5l you can do everything except tune it with a $40 Kmart tool kit
Even adjust the fuel,

Other thing is the ct20 doesn't always allow aircon to be refitted
Not 100% but I think the t04 does

John, can you please explain what you mean by the CT20 not always allowing the aircon to be refitted?

Not all setup allow for aircon to stay
So depending on the manifold you chose to use with the ct20 will deceid if it stays or goes

Best bet is to jump on the surf forum as its a more common mod over there

Cheers for all the advice. Couple of last questions - 1. what's the reasoning for replacing the exhaust? is it a necessary requirement?
2. I know this is very much subject to a range of variable but will there be an improvement to fuel efficiency post turbo?Currently using 12L per100km mainly city with some longer trips

the turbo creates it own back pressure, so if you are to restrict to the exhaust it will slow the turing of the turbo

it like fitting 2 taps to water a garden hose the last one in the line controls the flow not the first

just a thought cummins 2.8l are a relative cheep engine to buy compared to the 3l and 5l
they come new in 19k priced futons
and with 2 models available 120 and 160kw version both high 300nm
might be a good reliable option
