Need URGENT help , rattling noise from pulley.

Hi Guys,
I recently bought a 2003 3.4 V6 extra cab beauty. just 123ks ....... Everything is perfect with the car , runs well but when I start it cold there is a rattling noise coming from one of the pulleys.
Thought of taking it to Toyota service centre , but have heard they will simply rip me off ......
The noise almost disappears when the engine heats up .
Anyone having the same issue here ???

Any help will be appreciated.

Try taking the drive belt off and start it cold. See if the noise is still there. That will then confirm a pulley, accessory item or internal engine noise.

im with mitch just dont run it for too long without the belt.

if you replace the pulley yourself take note of the direction the pully spins as the nut will undo in the opposite direction ie maybe left hand thread ect. better to replace the pulley asap because if it siezes it will destroy the belt in seconds and youll be stuck on the side of the road with a cooked head.

Sounds strange but I had a belt make a very metallic sound which dissapeared when hot.
Hit the belt with a bit of wd-40 while it's running and that will confirm or eliminate that possibility. Just be careful if you give it a big spray it can go everywhere!

Tried WD40 but no use ..... Will have to take it to some workshop.
Any suggestions on a reasonable and Wise hilux mechanic in Brisbane ?????

Hey Guys the culprit was Air Con tensioner pulley ....
Hail Leon's Motors Coopers Plains , car sounds even better than brand new.
Surprised to see how much noise one tensioner pulley can make.
