No experience with 1KD's but normally the caps are matched to the head. Where are your old ones? Or is it a new head that didn't come with some?

Cracked one on assembly, I understand they are suppose to be matched, but the caps are a soft metal alloy and the camshaft is hardend steel. Toyota want me to buy a new head but I can't see the problem as long as you check the clearance and add the od shimm or two.

The point is that they are tunnel bored. The caps are bolted to the head and then the holes for the cam shaft are bored thru. If you get another cap it won't match and will wear excessively. Do it if you are selling the vehicle or it's only a town run about, but don't risk it if you do big Km's in remote areas.

IMHO not even a town run about. Fitted an exchange head a few years ago and then fitted the cams and one wouldn't turn. One of the caps didn't match. You may be able to remove the head and have it line bored with a replacement cap (never tried) but anything else is a huge chance.
Either way it's a big deal. Sorry.
