In south Africa they put a lot of lexus and toyota v8's, have a bit of a search on lextreme and other sites like that, the 1uz, 3uz etc are good options

Anything is doable ..where abouts are you?

MMM your going to strugle to get an old 350 chev in a 2008 vehicle due to emission controls(you may get around it if its on straight gas),speak to an engineer before you think too much about it,Id go a lexus 4.0ltr V8 put it on injected gas. win.
Might be my back up plan if the D4D dies

Does anyone make a conversion kit or would you have to custom build it yourself?

Ok first question is why the V8?

Off road performance? So you're chasing more low down torque to get you out of bog holes?

Speed? You just want to go faster?

Wank factor? Just to say you have a V8? To be different?

etc etc etc

Nothing wrong with any of these but if you want the first two then there are other / cheaper ways.

Putting a big heavy V8 over the front wheels is going to upset a lot of geometry and the general balance that is already a very good platform.

IMHO you should look at the whole package, brakes and suspension, wheels and tyres, and engine swap and / or mods.

What you actually want to do??

LS Engines are not big heavy cast iron v8s of the pastm, they are all alloy... In fact, Id be surprised if they weigh more than a steel bullbar over the weight of the 1KD. I know they are lighter than a BMW 6.

I put a leyland 3.5ltr V8 in as a replacement for a 2.4L (2L) Toyota diesel in a 85 hilux and that engine was lighter than the 4cyl diesel.

THe easiest conversions are of the same year or later than the ADR compliancne of the recipient vehicle, hence Lexus V8 is a challenge and Id suggest to leave it alone.

Ive been toying with this idea myself and have concluded that the best option would be a 6.0L litre LS2 L76 engine... Id want to keep the Auto though, which is the next challenge as the Transfer case needs to adapt.

If I used a Landcruiser Transfer Case it becomes a RIghty... and then the diff pumpkin has to change...

So, then I look at the potential of changing the entire driveline and going for a SAS at the same time...

$$$$$$... Waiting to see if the new Hilux is softer than this current one before I invest either way.

They do heaps of Lexus V8's conversions here in NZ (most are boy racers in their 2wds)
The things are unbreakable and not that bad on fuel
