new 3 inch exhaust throwing engine codes

Hey fellas,

ive got a major problem, just got back from a 2000 km round trip today and i had about 6 instances where the ute (2006 d4d manual) kept going into limp mode when changing from 4 th to 5 th or when lifting off the gas. I had to pull over turn the car off for a minute and then it was fine again, for a while.

I recently completed the same trip at the start of june with no problems and the only difference is before i went this time i fitted an x force 3 inch exhaust with a hi flow cat and muffler. i dont have a chip only a snorkel.

Has anyone else had any problems with a 3 inch and no chip?

Wondering if a hi flow air filter will help the issue?

Hi i had this problem the other month. I have the x force 3" with a chip. plugged in the scan tool and came up with turbo stepper motor fault code, i have just reset the fault and haven't had a problem since.

Ohhhh man,I just drove to Orange today to pick up my X-force 3" system,hope I dont have endless dramas with it when i fit it next week.

The exhaust itself is perfect, had the old one off and the new one on in an hour,
I might pop down to the mechanics and get him to reset the computer.

Only other thing i can think of is to get another dump pipe made in 2.5 inch And try that.

Could you notice much improvment in performance /fuel economy/sound just with the X-force?

while i was sitting on the side of the road waiting for the computer to reset the note was quiet, the feul economy was great and the performance felt sluggish

Seriously though, the car felt to accelerate a bit quicker and it seem to rev a bit lower on the open road which i suppose would improve the economy, note was definatly deeper, no exhaust whistle.

I honestly care about any of that if it keeps throwing codes though!!!!

Hey I recently , put on a SS 3" X force on my 2011 D4D , the exhaust is really well made and fitted with no problems . I have not had and limp mode problems with mine ? what is the fault code ? you may have a genuine problem not related to the exhaust

Not sure yet, havent had it on the computer, ive never had a code yet ( apart from abs) and its just strange that i get six limp modes in the first 2000 k after i put it on. Do you do any long hwy stints with yours downsey?

My 3" sterling has never thrown a code in 50k and i dont run any chips at all.. only a sprint booster..

6 fault codes.................,If I get a chance I may even fit mine on wednesday.

Nah I havent done any hwy distances yet , only short stuff around town. Only had it fitted last month, hope I dont get the same issues . Keep us updated what you find

Just a thought , maybe check that none of the bolts have come loose on the exhaust , maybe you have a small exhaust leak which might be causing the fault codes

I just had a 3 inch SS X force system delivered last week and was excited to get it fitted sometime this week, now I am more than a little concerned! I might just put it off a little while now

I think i will try a k+n filter first to get some more air flow and then if it still does it a sprint booster to stop the lag. Around town its fine its only when your evertaking a road train that It goes into limp mode.

fwiw, I'm using a Scott's Rods 3" along with unifilter, safari snorkel and sprint booster

no codes here, and I've done about 10k with that config

I just put a manta 3" system on and just racked up 1000km's in a big 4wding trip where I was fully loaded (two adult passengers, 50lts water, 135lttr fuel, camping gear, 47ltr fridge, canopy, bullbar, side bars, dual batts) and had no issues. Not sure on the specs of my cat or muffler, but it does have a cat. The note change is slightly deeper and the power change is a bit better. Some of the sand driving whilst unloaded was real heavy and the car kept pulling. I don't run a chip

Rang xforce and they said they have never heard of it happening before. Got it booked in at my mech's for thursday so well see.

Just about sick of this car really, if only i hadnt spent so much bloody cash on it.

I'm running a DP chip, sprint booster and a Humex 3" dump pipe only while I'm waiting for the bro in law to repair my exhaust.....painfully loud in the cab BUT it has never thrown any codes or gone into limp mode with either the full 3"system in 30,000km or just the straight out dump pipe

i have xforce system too no probs here done 3000km on mine with vmn throttle controller snorkle never had a problem.. interested to find out what has gone wrong for further reference if it happens to me...

I don't have a 3 inch exhaust but I am having this trouble as well, which is dangerous. I have been told that I have to replace all the fuel injectors but then I have been told that even once that's done it still happens. Not sure what to do have you had any luck with fixing it.
