Could it have something to do with.the new exhaust picking the boost up a bit due to a higher flowing exhaust and bringing up an overboost code?

You will be throwing over boost codes.
Clean your map sensor filter it may help


It is located under your black intercooler cover.
Wash it out with carby cleaner or brake cleaner heaps of black shit will come out and the blow bey with compressed air.

Ive got similar problems with my 06 lux i have noticed over the lat 18 month the power has dropped off so i fitted a 3" exhaust made a little differance at first so then i had heared of the egr clogging the intakes so i remover all the intake and had it acid dipped and cleaned and blocked the egr off and fitted a torqit chip and it only dyno at 74 kw at the wheels before and 94 kw after the chip now it is throwing limp modes quite regulary when going up hills with about half throttle under boost load the code is P1251 turbo stepp motor just wondering if anyone else has had similar problems and is there any easy checks i can do to find out exactly whats going on before i start throwing parts at it

I'd start by unblocking the EGR.

well its still went into limp mode with the chip off now i have removed the egr blanking plate and will have to see if limps this week.
Still doesnt explain why it is so under powered and that is has been getting worse

Same here, ss x-force 3" full system , after one week throws 1251 fault code, stepper motor.
was told the lack of back pressure , the turbo vanes don't know what to do and you get boost spikes, thus throws up the code, but then again my lux is an 06 as well. mate with a 05 has no problems. don't know if I should take the exhaust off or leave it on.

while i was sitting on the side of the road waiting for the computer to reset the note was quiet, the feul economy was great and the performance felt sluggish

Seriously though, the car felt to accelerate a bit quicker and it seem to rev a bit lower on the open road which i suppose would improve the economy, note was definatly deeper, no exhaust whistle.

I honestly care about any of that if it keeps throwing codes though!!!!

i have recently bought an 06 hilux with a 3 inch exhaust with a cat and muffler. it also has the stepper motor trouble code and goes in to limp home mode. I'm just wondering if anyone has tried to clean the map sensor and filter and if it helps

P0048 fault code?
It will probably be a new turbo or re-conditioned one if this is the case.
Check your motor rod stroke off the DC motor.
When the ignition is turned on it should pull up.

It is the stepper motor fault code for the turbo. I'm reckon it is due to not having enough back pressure in the exhaust system and i was wondering if anyone has found a way around it

Many folk here with 2006 hiluxes such as my self

I also run a 3 inch extreme duty Redback exhaust I have both dump pipe with cat and without cat. I fitted without cat firstly and the P2151 stepper code kept coming up so I put the cat pipe on. Has been working alright but still get the code at off occasion

No chips, no block offs

My exhaust rubbers got worn and I have extended shackles on my springs which rub on my exhaust so I've cut the exhaust back enough to clear the shackles but by doing then resulted in 1 less support hanger so my rubber clapped out so now my exhaust runs just before the diff

And must admit even though car is a bit sluggish, it hasn't thrown a code

In saying this I've brought a factory exhaust and going to fit it this sunday and see if there is a difference.
