Building an engine for a turbo

Hi guys
I am in the process of building my 2002 hilux 3.0diesel (5LE) into a tourer. I have plans to keep this car for many years, so all the mods which are done, are planed and thought through first. Once its complete, it will have everything "I" need to go where i'd like.
But once the mods are done, i willbe looking at engine mods. I am just not comfortable with bolting on a turbo (even though it has done 80,000). Would it be better to build the engine stronger before this? (what will need to be replaced?) or is it cheeper and easier to get a comoany to drop another engine in? If so, which one?
I dont want anything to drastic or costly, rather a reliable affordable upgrade.
Im interested to know everyones opinion,
Oh, and i am pretty set on diesel, so i dont want a ls1 or anything
Cheers
Matt

A wrecked kzn165 would give you everything to run a 1kz. Bigger gearbox too. Or a wrecked 120 prado would give you a d4d and 6speed manual. What's your budget. What's your DIY level?
Personally, I'd turbo the 5l if it's only done 80k. Good for and easy 120 to 170k more with good maintenance.

Thanks for the info mate.
My budget would be about 5k at the most.
So do u recommend just slapping a turbo and exhaust on? Or is there anything i should do first?
Cheers

Yeah, I meen without knowing the car it should still be a baby at 80k. Maybe allow for a clutch also as a turbo will add quite a bit of torque, but yeah, reputable turbo kit from a trusted shop would make a huge difference without a heart transplant. A GOOD s/hand diesel motor alone would take a huge % of your budget.
Maybe others here can give there experiences on turboed 5l's?
My 2c anyway.

Thanks heaps mate, as you said, hopefully someone with experience in turboing the 5le can give their opinion too.
