replace your oil and filter before you start the engine... there may be contamination from removing the head. When you fill the oil it should flood the top end, lobes etc so there should be good lube there but you should oil up the parts as you install them too. Use some good oil in there too... I use penrite hpr diesel 10w40

Heads on and engine is all back together.

Is there a procedure for priming the fuel system ready? I have pumped the primer on on top of the fuel filter housing which I believe should fill the injector pump with fuel.

Is there a bleed valve on the pump itself? Cant seem to see one. I'm not convinced that fuel is making its way passed the pump. If I slacken the injectors there is a small amount of fuel leakage but not a great deal.

Any tips on how to prime her ready to start?

Cheer's Gipsy taken your advice mate and done that

Should prime itself if you pump up the primer on the filter til it is hard. Crack or remove the outlet hose from the filter and prime it til it flows fuel without bubbles. The supply pump will do the rest.

If you have any $$$$ left after all the work fit a pre filter as a good insurance.

I couldn't quite make out what is was. It was small about nut size and it was magnetic. Reckon it may have been something that had been accidentally dropped in their by the previous owner. Maybe when doing an oil change or something. I would post a pic but haven't quite figured out how to upload them here yet.

Well she's back on the road. Took her for a test drive tonight and all is well. Thanks for all the help / advice given. Its the first cylinder head I've replaced and hopefully my last, even thou I must say I have enjoyed working on the old girl.
