What else can be done?

Postby kanny351 on Sun, 29 May 2011 6:17 +0000

I am chasing more power out of my 1kd-ftv 3ltr turbo diesel. So far I have the steinbauer power module as well as the steinbauer boost module, big exhaust, sprint booster and about to put a big front mount air to air intercooler. Is there anything else I can do? I don't want to put a bigger turbo on as I don't want it too laggy. Will running more boost some how get more power? How much grunt can these engines hold up?

Cheers

You have always got petrol or LPG injection, turn the boost up a couple of extra psi.
Other than that, sounds like you have just about everything else already fitted....

Bumping up your boost will give you a noticable increase in power.
What PSI a standard hilux turbo can be increased to I don't know nor the safe power limit a standard engine can handle.

Would like to know though as I'm interested in increasing the boost on my rig

The Pivot throttle Controller from VMN will make an enormous difference. Won't add power but will apply the power you have to the wheels a lot quicker! Only $345 and you can get it here:
http://www.vehiclemods.net.au/shop/26-v ... controller

More info in the VMN section of the forum. Oh and you can also use it on your V8 by buying another wiring harness.... :D

More boost means more air which means more fuel can be added which therefore means possibly more power.......thats how stock skyline motors (rb25) can double its factory power without touching the internals

Pretty sure this is the function of the Steinbauer Boost module. Increases the boost. Maybe you need to look for a boost cut defeater. I'm aware of one that lets the Boost run out to about 20 psi before allowing the ECU to cut it but I don't think it is bought in to AUS. This is a fair increase fro the 14.5 - 15 psi factory spec so follow up with more fuel and You'll have a skyline before you know it! Make sure you get one that links to the ECU and does not just let the boost spool out to what it wants to...

Also if running bigger tyres, regear the diffs....

** EDIT **
Also look at the Raptor water to air intercooler from MR.

i have the Steinbauer Boost module which ups to a max 22psi it has made a big different. I have 265/75r16 on it now and if i go to 285/75r16 it will be a bit of a dog on the highway. different diff gears sound very good. I dont know what the diff gears are now (standard) but what is a good ratio to change to and who does them? would like to see what boost these engines can handle with the stock turbo without the engine blowing. i see alot on the net from thailand that make plenty of grunt.

cheers.

Mate if you get the magazine 4WD custom guide 2011 modification trends it has the hilux D4D power upgrades. Turn the pressure up. Garrett turbo upgrades the works 40 per cent more power

For that Tyre size - Manual 3.9, Auto 4.1

This article on my Website represents the gearing ratios in a more user friendly format than how they are in the Drive Train Gearing Bible thread I wrote.

VMN can provide a Nitro Rear diff set in either size for around $800 with all required parts, bearings seals etc but you are stuck with the factor parts for the front so look around for a Prado 120 diff in the right ratio.

No thanks mate had a blown 5.4 xr8 and wasn't flash. Got a gtr skyline as a show car I should just realize that my everyday car is just a 4 cylinder diesel lol. The diff gears for the lux is the way to go I think.

I fitted a steinbauer box to my 3.0 d4d and would like a bit more power as the 33" wheels killed abit of power. Does the stainbauer boost module make much of a difference? Does anyone have a part number for it or have any info where I can get it?

Does a r" exhaust give much more power?

I haven't re geared yet for the 33" tyres and it needs more power low down around 1.5k - 3k rpm

Any help would be appreciated

Why do you want to push it to its limits?Do you use it off road or is it for on road use? With the chip and exhaust
you should have enough power for off road, maybe look at gearing. My mate played around with his to much over boosted it and ended up blowing up the motor. With the cost of a new motor he decided to go big block 460 v8 with all the good stuff running on lpg.Huge grunt but costs a fortune to run, even with huge lpg tanks hard to find gas outback.
