Ive just put 4.556 diffs in my hilux which was 3.583 prior . Basically Im 20% lower geared .
What has happened after about 50klm driving and a few on off starts the accelerator pedal has become virtually driving at the top of its stroke . Almost just feathering the accelerator to drive along at 60-80 . Seems the ecu has learned theres a much less engine load and the fueling has been altered. Engine now sounds like idle engine noise at road speed unless you put the engine under a bit more load then its very quiet but quickly becomes over the speed limit.
Anyone able to confirm if the ecu could have reduced fueling due to reduced engine load and less pedal press .
I guess the original fuel mapping is designed for the original vehicle parameters and reducing load by 20% is significant .

Interesting. Idk the answer but mine didn't change anything swapping between 29in and 33in tyres.

Do you have tech stream? There is a learn value there but idk if it can be adjusted. If not pull the speedo sensor off the gearbox and see if it changes anything (it will throw an engine warning light).

don't forget the speedo will be wrong with the diff change and tyre size

I have techstream and also fitted a speedo correction module (Marks adapters) after the difference in driving characteristics showed up .
I see in techstream theres a pump volume set function or some similar description . I wonder if that function is done driving or idling .

My guess is the load sensor tells the black box (ECU) to reduce the fuel input due to less load because of lower gearing. You would have noticed the engine sounds louder when cold due to extra fuel being supplied to the injectors to warm the engine and when driving your gearing reduces the need for fuel... Just my 10cents worth ;)

Is the load sensed by the Map and Maf ?
If this is related to ecu altering its fuel volume delivery and possibly timing (i think they go hand in hand ) due to the sjgnificantly reduced load I think it may be a permanent condition which I cant change without remapping .

From what I read in your post, the throttle is more sensitive?? You can get a throttle controller to set it at you wanted.
Not sure where the load sensor gets data, map and maf don't provide it as far as I know. More likely in the transmission control module.

The accelerator is very much operating with very little pedal press . Id say top 10 % of pedal stroke is all thats needed to drive . Main issue Im concerned is it seems to change its enginesound when just feathering the throttle to a sound Id describe as normal idle chatter . As soon as I pass this feathering of the throttle and apply some further acceleration the engine goes to its original sound which has been quite quiet for the 1kd .
