pilot learn ecu whats happening and how

I recently performed a pilot learn on my 2010 1kd .
Id like to know what is actually happening in the ecu while performing this function .
Alot of clicking noticed while deceleration is happening in the function .
Id like to understand what the ecu is learning and how it actually achieves the information to end up with the saved data once the learn is complete .
Also the prompts you follow performing the learn say to quickly rev the engine to 3000+ . Not sure if this should be done by smooth but rapid throttle pressing or just straight to the floor . It would be good to know this as it may play a role in the ecu data logging .
Im hopeing to have a better understanding of the ecu function and what is actually going on inside it whilst completing the learn .
