Postby ghajjar on Sat, 08 Oct 2022 5:28 +0000

hi guys hope someone can confirm this for me, did search couldn't relate anything to my problem
driving on freeway sudden shake in engine pulled over turned engine off
lots oil coming out from the catch can
tried restarting nothing
got towed
the following day tried a few things
oil still black
no white smoke
engine only does quarter turn with resistance

is it a blown seal
cracked piston
rod
or crank shaft
thank you

What year model and mileage? Did you check the fuel filter for water? First, look for water in the fuel, that sounds most likely.
Difficult to diagnose without a lot of detail. Put an OBD scanguage on it and check for codes. Any engine lights?
Did you buy it recently? Previous owner may have seen this coming? After checking fuel filter next step is drop the engine oil and inspect the oil pickup screen to see if its blocked. There's a whole thread here on oil pickup... Use search.

The dangers of blow-by could explain something, some earlier models had leaking injector seals allowing oil to seep into the cylinder. Also this could lead to a blocked oil pickup tube in the sump, causing engine siezing.
Cheers Gipsy :D although I'm sure somebody will challenge that  even Einstein wasn't certain of his theories.

You seem to be thinking along the same lines as me. I'd also be asking how long ago was the last oil change/ service?

Could be anything. Its particularly hard to diagnose sitting here behind a keyboard. Plenty we could suggest but probably best to take it somewhere.

A cracked piston is pretty obvious once you've seen a couple. Some dont smoke but the blowby is noticeable.
I might be wrong.

So did we hear anything more??? :o time goes slow in NZ, it was 2 DAYS! Now it's 4 :?

So correct me if I'm wrong... Massive problem with the hilux, very little detail, and we are all supposed to fix it in one post.

No offers of help from across the Dutch! Plenty of sniping though. Maybe someone should read their signature :D

Wow I just cracked 2000 posts! What does it take to go platinum??? Lots of lurking and sniping i guess

Not certain of course, but as I understand it, these forums are usually run by volunteers at their own expense. This would mean that "tossing in some money to help run the forum" is way outta the question.
2 cents!

Depends how much one's ego is worth, voluntary contributions of free advice also helps run a forum, just my 2c

If the forum is about who pays, then why not go the whole hog and invite Zukerberrg to buy us out and put some ads on

Hell I don’t know, I thought I was doing the right thing in donating a small amount to help cover some of the running costs
