V6 4.0 which fuel to use, what to avoid? Fuel Economy

I have an 08 V6 Auto with Dual Fuel LPG/Petrol.

I don't intend to do more than 5000-8000 klm a year and will mainly use LPG. I note reading online that I should use a balance of petrol and LPG for the benefit of the engine.

Considering my low klm use & LPG use I am not concerned at the price of petrol.

However, I am not sure what is technically the best RON to use E10, 91, 95 or 98? Any advantages or disadvantages?

Thanks

98 will give you more power output but costs more... The v6 is tuned for 98 or 94 and E10. Your choice but if you don't really need the 215 killer wasps I would use E10. LPG will definitely not give you 215kw.

Are they 215kw? I thought they were 170kw?

The prados have a different map and cams but other than that i thought only the supercharged hilux made more than 200kw.

170Kw.
I've run E10, 91 and 98 in mine.
Loves the 98 but it doesn't get the 98 very often. After running a full tank of 98 and then going back to E10 or 91 I can tell the difference and that it's a bit lacking.
Fuel economy is better on 98 but I have done the figures and the better fuel economy has never outweighed the extra cost.

Anyway to answer your question, if you are only putting the odd tank of UPL in it then I would use the 98.

Sorry guys my bad, 2008 Prado 179kw, Hilux 175kw according to carsales specifications

Interesting though, the 3.5l Aurion is good for 200kw and 215kw on 98 fuel!

Loving my LPG at the moment :) At only 99c per litre.

LPG is averaging 15 L/100klm on freeway with 40 psi and 20L / 100 klm mixed city & freeway @ 34 psi. I guess an average of say 18L /$18 per 100 klm. Looks like comparable with Diesel costs per 100 klm.

Assuming Diesel average of 9L / $19 per 100 klm at about $2.10 per litre? Hopefully LPG stays at 99c and remains plentiful :)

I have just started to test my petrol consumption, did about 200 klm over the past 2 days, will wait to empty the tank then calc the usage but it looks like around 14L / $29 per 100 klm for 20% Freeway / 80% city and at about $2.15 per litre for 95, will calc up to $29 per 100 klm.

I do not normally drive this much to be honest, I have just been running around getting things fixed and added to this recently purchased Hilux and have been wanting to go on drives in the honeymoon period.

It is a pity that LPG will largely be unavailable in the next few years. Maybe if fuel price stay high LPG can stage a comeback :)

We will all need a power point soon and a long power lead

I don't think LPG will go out of use at least for our lifetime... Neither side of politics will phase out LPG until well after 2050. Even net Zero by 2050 includes LPG in the mix. Methinks most of us here will be using other power/energy options by then... In my case I'll probably be pushing up daisies to help get to net Zero

I like roses, greater plant bulk. Might not chat with the missus about it, she might start digging the hole. :) :) :)

  well any rose by a different name would smell as sweet ;)
My real plans would probably include a Viking funeral... Look that up, suffice to say I will help with climate change rather than hinder it!

"Most Vikings were sent to the afterlife in one of two ways—cremation or burial. Cremation (often upon a funeral pyre) was particularly common among the earliest Vikings, who were fiercely pagan and believed the fire's smoke would help carry the deceased to their afterlife.20 July 2017" www.history.com

Hhmmm, when you say "Help with climate change" ... I take your meaning to be that you are hoping to assist with increasing global temperatures. Is that right?

One less polluter should be a net reduction of emissions and if I opt for burial at sea it should feed the declining fish stocks... Just remember that when you next eat yourTasmanian farmed salmon!

Are you talking about BBQing or Cremating?
I believe there is a slight difference between cooked meat and ash when it comes to what might be palatable for fish.

How many k's does your 1gr-fe do for a tank of fuel? Its the thirstiest car I've ever owned I'm at the servo all most everyday . How many of you have long range tanks Im not really sure my lux is worth spending the money on it has issues . Mine is lucky to get 400k's a tank I always put 98 in it 91 gets me less k's.

I’ll post up once I empty my first tank of petrol, I don’t drive much but it looks like around 14L per 100 average for the last 200 klm with 34 psi in the tires mix of city and freeway, no offroad or towing and no load in the tub. With a 76 litre tank I am expecting a max of 540 and 500 if I refill it when it has 6 litres left in it? Once I have finished my petrol test I will be switching back to LPG pronto.

I just completed my first tank of petrol on my 08 V6 Auto DC. Unladen 75% inner city driving 25% Freeway. 18 inch rims and 31 psi. I averaged 19.7 L of 95 RON per 100 klm. So yeah, about 400 klm per tank. Thank god I have an LPG system fitted to this car, won't be using petrol again in a hurry unless I have to :) I am only doing 600-1000 klm per month tho.

Romsey, I'd be interested how your Hilux goes on 95. There are a few stories that 95 gives better fuel economy and not much noticeable performance decrease.

As above 19.7L /100 for 75% inner city use. I wonder how much it would improve if I pump the tyres back up to 40 psi? Not keen to be honest, I am getting used to the comfort.

I am just not doing enough klm to do any more meaningful testing but will continue to report on my LPG consumption as I am staying away from Petrol :) unless I do a long trip out of Sydney when I go moto camping.

Ok, sorry I meant to ask your 98 economy, Steve indicated it's more economy for higher price so $per hundred K might show the difference.

I suspect that 98 would improve economy marginally but offset by the increased cost, the reason I stayed with 95 is that it is my understanding that most car ECU's need a few tanks to adjust the timing and AFR to a new RON of fuel. If I changed to 98 to see if there is a difference I am assuming I would need to run a few tanks thru which I won't. Going to keep it running on LPG from now on and petrol as required.
