Oil Leak from the filter itself?

Anyone else had an issue with the Oil filters? Put one on yesterday and oil manages to slowly leak out of it and gather around the base, Through it out and put another one on there and same thing 24 hours later

Never had this issue before with a simple oil filter and yes the surface was cleaned and wiped down, the old gasket removed and the new one lubed up with oil on the finger

Genuine Toyota oil filter? I've never had it before with genuine and aftermarket. Is it cross-threaded?

Never happened to me either, with any vehicle.

Is it the right oil filter ? As Gipsy said "genuine Toyota?" Filters ain't filters, Sol.

Oil gathering around the base sounds a bit strange, as there is a drain hole in the casting which lets oil drip on to the starter motor, with unpleasant consequences if it isn't rectified.

I have exactly the same problem. I purchased a bulk consignment of oil filters that are labelled as being genuine Toyota. Despite using recognised fitment processes they always leak around the base.

I have returned to purchasing Ryco filters and have no leakage problems.

Perhaps this is yet another instance of China knockoffs that are being badged as genuine product. I do stress these filters were not purchased via a Toyota dealer franchise

Tried with K&N Filter firstly, then swapped for a Ryco (Z418) one and still minor leak, I have 2 more filters new in box one is another K&N and the other is the Premium version of the Ryco (Z418ST)

Check under the bonet in the mornings and its all dry but after a drive its a tiny and I mean tiny little pool

Deffinatly oil as well not diesel

To me I would try a genuine filter see if the problem disappears. If not then a thorough inspection of the mounting surface for scratches cracks etc.
Think the genuine toyota packaging always as a toyota hologram sticker on it trying to stop counterfeit copies.
Never had the issue myself. Found double I rings in the past and rectified but yes an odd one.

Another reputable filter kit is made by fleetgaurd. They make a full 4WD kit from memory.

Even the cheap Chinese "genuine Toyota" have a hologram just to fool you. And the genuine Toyota ones are often made in China. At least you have a comeback if you buy from a Toyota dealer!
