Whistle/air noise after egr intake and manifold clean

Postby Joejoe898 on Mon, 21 Dec 2020 12:51 +0000

So I recently had my egr intake and manifold cleaned by a mechanic. Once I got my car back I noticed a kind of air under pressure noise when I accelerate. It wasn't there before I took the car in for the clean. I also noticed that the 'soooo' noise my car used to make when the turbo spooled down was gone aswell. I took it back to them and they said all gaskets and pipes are correctly re instated and its the turbo making the noise as everything is clean now. To begin with there wasn't a great of carbon build up as I got them me to send photos of all parts before and after the clean. Can anyone point me in the right direction to see what the problem is or if this is normal after a clean?

Check the hose clamps on the turbo and intercooler, could just be a small leak. Bit hard to tell without hearing it tho.

Guys

Pulled the intake off and checked the turbo and it spins ok and no apparent damage to the fins. Checked the intercooler connection hose and all tight. I don't know how free the turbo is supposed to be but it felt ok. I removed the front drive shaft and noise still there.

I can't explain it any better than it sounds like a tyre breaking loose when you accelerate too hard (not in my Hilux). If I accelerate slowly it doesn't do it.

Is there anywhere else that might make that noise under load.

Any thoughts appreciated.
