Rattle in Engine Bay

Postby Gravy72 on Wed, 01 Jul 2020 6:07 +0000

Read through all other posts with the same Topic Heading and none of the symptoms match what I am experiencing.

I own a 2005 Kun26R with a D4D engine, second owner, 210K on the clock.

When I turn the ignition to on, engine stationary, immediately I hear a rattle at rear of the engine bay on the drivers side. Sound appears like it is relay or control valve chatter.

Anyone give me a hint on what I should be looking at to rectify the problem before I start pulling things to bits. There does not appear to be a degradation in vehicle performance.

Sounds like the turbo stepper motor. Perfectly normal for it to do that.
I might be wrong.

Thanks, senility must be settling in, I have not previously noticed this noise.

Maybe you haven't heard that noise because you just turn it on and start it. Mine makes a gravelly noise coming from the stepper motor, and always has. Its the stepper motor going through a setup before you start the engine. Nothing to worry about. You can worry if it doesn't do it because it's stuffed ;) it's not senility, just a concerned elder worried in case something is wrong with his treasured Hilux :D One benefit of getting older is you sometimes go deaf and can't hear anything, thus eliminating the undue worry about strange noises :?
Cheers Gipsy :D although I'm sure somebody will challenge that  even Einstein wasn't certain of his theories.
