Number 2 Big end bearing fail 2009

Postby lux4x4 on Fri, 03 Apr 2020 3:42 +0000

Hi all
A while since I’ve been on here.
When driving home recently my motor started to clunk, after I checked the dipstick- I then had it towed. Now the motors out & it’s dropped no.2 big end bearing.
Is this happened to anyone else?

Sorry to hear that mate.

Its rare but it can happen to any engine. Pradopoint has a couple of 1kd example, might be a couple here as well.

Whats your plan for getting it fixed?
I might be wrong.

Not that rare- I’ve heard of this happening to 4 or five other owners, some with a lot less km’s than the 330 that I’ve done.
Services have always been done on time.
The motor is now out and the crank will be assessed- I’ll take it from there.

Check the oil pickup strainer in the sump if it is clogged insufficient oil gets through to the bearing and bang! If it's clogged you have leaky injector seals, common on early 1k.
Cheers Gipsy :D although I'm sure somebody will challenge that  even Einstein wasn't certain of his theories.

No cleaning it doesn't solve the problem. It is a symptom of leaky injector seals.
